I fully respect that the bible is widely documented, and I don’t dispute the facts it contains. However those facts are at least 2000 years old. For a modern set of facts I go to respected science websites and test assertions made for plausibility.

The question was “Are there more stars or more grains of sand on earth?”

“Our stargazer gets a Hubble telescope and a calculator, so now we can count distant galaxies, faint stars, red dwarfs, everything we've ever recorded in the sky, and boom! Now the population of stars jumps enormously, to 70 thousand million, million, million stars in the observable universe (a 2003 estimate), so that we've got multiple stars for every grain of sand — which means, sorry, grains, you are nowhere near as numerous as the stars.‘

“But as of today, Kepler has found over 11,000 stars with at least one planetary candidate, and over 18,000 potential planets around those stars.

You may have read this week that there are at least 100-to-200 billion planets in our Milky Way, and that's true, but that's not an estimate; that's a lower limit. If you instead were to make an estimate, you'd get a number that's at least one (and more like two, if you're willing to make inferences about outer planets) orders of magnitude higher: closer to ten trillion planets in our galaxy, alone!

With at least 200 billion galaxies out there (and possibly even more), we're very likely talking about a Universe filled with around 10*^24 planets, or, for those of you who like it written out, around 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 planets in our observable Universe.”
