Kids Need To Enjoy The Outdoors More.

in life •  7 years ago

My oldest son came back from a 2 day fishing trip.

He had a computer, mobile phone and later on when a bit bigger even a tablet.

Now when I think about it, I agree more with this:

I agree with you, about 50/50 really. These days the world is more attached to their devices and do not bother to go outside, and maybe get some sunshine!

On the other hand the world is a very different... and dangerous place, compared to 40 years ago when we were able to go out and play. There was no internet, no game systems, and the home pc was a dream.

And the way things are going, the future is only going to get worse with all the gadgets, and the IoT and 5G Networks. Things were simpler in days gone by.

Have a great day! :-)

I understand and think that it is up to us parents to teach our children to enjoy nature.

Yes you are right, things have changed and this is even more reason for us parents to do our job and make sure our children undersand and enjoy mother nature.

Indeed! That is why I moved from FL to PA.... way up in the mountains... to a very small town. Lots of fresh air, streams and woods!

We used to run all of the neighborhood when I was little. Be home when the streetlights came one was the rule. Would I let my kids do that in today's worlds. Hell no!! Too many frickin weirdos out there. The crazy part is you have no idea who they are.

Exactly! Same here... go outside till the lights came on. :-) You are right, children cannot do that now, nor would I want mine to be out there either, so it is a catch 22 for sure.

True enough.i can recall my childhood days when we there were.no gadgets yet, when only few households had tv, when we were disciplined to say personally to our parents or anybody because there was no cellphone yet.
And a lot more.
Those were the times when, i could say, values and discipline were intact. There was proper dialogue among family members, when one cn have personal interactions with each other.i.really miss my childhood days..
Since change now is inevitable, what we.need is proper follow up with our kids..and proper value formation..
Am i right?thnks steemians!

Very true. I remember those days too, because I grew up in a eastern block country and a lot of things that were normal in western countries, like a phone and tv per home, happened 20 to 30 years later. So even I remember those days!

Yes you are right.

The hard part is getting your kids to be well rounded in both the tech side and the outdoor side. With tech booming I believe you can't cut them completely off but make sure you limit the time spent on the various devices. It is also important, in my mind, that they know about the outdoors. Hiking, fishing, camping, hunting, etc.

Need to find a ballance, have them learn to appreciate nature and everything that this world has to offer.

true.

I think so too!
