In my hometown Petrosani the heart of the city will stop beating soon.
The city and all the cities around(located in Jiuls Valley) are home to six or more coal(pitcoal) mines, of which more than half are closed, and all will be soon. About 90000 people from all cities in Jiuls Valley (as you would have guessed, Jiul is a river ) worked at these mines. At the time of wrting about 70000 of those people are unemployed.
This places economy was booming just 25 years ago, but due to the extreme corruption in my country (Romania) the industrial mining complexes where never modernized and the company that overlooked the mines named CNH (The national Pitcoal Company) was led by dubios individuals that robbed the company.
Of course this was a plan, to bankrupt the company and close the mines, because in the future somebody will want that coal, and they will probably get them at a cheap prices like all the country's assets (forest, land, gold mines, copper mines)
There is a ghost here probly..
How sad that is it could have an upside.
A lot of people died in these mines-God Bless Them (due to more factors in relation with bad work conditions) and things are not looking better, 50% of the coal is stolen anyway, bankrupcy around the corner.
The total debt owed by the company CNH to Romania is about 1 billion euros of blood and sweat spilled money.
Just reality in a 2.5 world country in the European Union.
