The Imposter Complex is a big problem for many people. It's hard to believe that someone would spend time online pretending to be someone they are not. But anyone who knows anything about internet marketing will be able to see right through the fakers. Here are a few ways to tell if someone is trying to game the system and make money off of unsuspecting victims.

Look out for obvious signs. If you have access to the person's online "profile", be sure to go through it carefully. Don't just give it a quick once-over to make sure everything is legit; look it over real close for any red flags. There should be obvious signs such as a large number of links leading back to their site (which they'll probably link you too since you're giving them free advertising), or an "About" section where you'll find some basic information you can't assume is true.
You'll also want to look for reactions from other people. Have they ever heard of this person before? If they have, are they calling him or her up and telling them all about how great the product is and how you should definitely try it out? Do other people seem to be buzzing about this same person on the internet? Chances are good that you'll get the same results.
Be sure to call them! If you're dealing with an individual, chances are good that you'll get their phone number. Call them up and find out more about this person. Are they being honest with you? If so, then you might be able to work your way around their scam.
A lot of people might say that they don't really care what others think of them. This might actually be part of the problem. There are going to be a lot of people who will scam unsuspecting people looking for answers to their questions. When you're trying to find someone who has been caught red-handed with a pyramid scheme, you have to realize that the only way you'll get the information you need is to talk to the person directly.
If that person has a website, you'll probably find some information on it. Chances are, though, that much of what's on there is either old or inaccurate. Chances are, if you're dealing with an older website, that you'll also find that the contact information might no longer be valid. This is why it's important to get all of the latest information. If you know the person's email address, you'll have a much better chance of tracking down the person who is behind that website.
If you don't know the person's email address, however, you won't have much luck doing a search like this online. You'll have to resort to traditional methods of locating these types of scammer and reverse email lookup services. It might be a bit difficult to find the websites that offer these services for free. Fortunately, many of them offer a trial period during which you can use their services without having to pay any money at all.

So, you know that you can't always trust every single person who claims to be looking for answers to your questions. This means that you'll have to rely on other ways to tell if someone has an imposter complex. The best advice is to never take anything they give you at face value. That being said, however, it can be pretty easy to figure out whether or not someone is being honest when they claim to be looking for a solution to your problem. Keep following up with them, as well as using reverse email lookup services to keep track of the various clues that will help you find out for sure.
