Beautiful Parade of Loy Krathong Festival in Thailand

Loy Krathong is one of the biggest festivals in Thailand. The festival is held on the full moon night in November each year.

Loy means float

Krathong is a piece of the banana trunk which is decorated with banana leaves, flowers, candles, and incense sticks.

Nowadays, most Krathongs are made of bread as they are environmentally friendly; i.e. they can be eaten by fish, so they do not pollute water.

According to our belief, we make Krathong as to worship the goddess of the river (or Phra Mae Kongka in Thai) and ask her for forgiveness. Besides, we also believe that all our misfortunes will be floated away with the Krathong.

Before the COVID-19, we celebrated the festival almost everywhere in Thailand; i.e. we have Krathong contests, Loy Krathong parades, Loy Krathong lights and sound shows, etc.

Below is one of the beautiful parades of the Loy Krathong festival.

These giant Krathongs were decorated beautifully on the magnificent “Suphannahong Royal Barge”. (These Krathongs were from our King.)

The dancers in beautiful Thai traditional dress joined the parade and had a great performance.

Ah! It’s really good memories! I wish we could hold the Loy Krathong festival again soon after the disappearance of COVID-19 from the world.
