Kai-Kai & Jia-Jia: Singapore's pandasteemCreated with Sketch.

If you ever visit Singapore and if you enjoy watching animals I would definitely recommend that you visit the river safari, the bird park and the Singapore zoo. You wouldn’t have to worry about finding them as they’re all located near each other. The one thing I absolutely loved about the river safari were the pandas. So turns out, that in order to celebrate 20 years of Sino-Singapore relations, the Chinese government gifted Singapore with two pandas in the year 2010. The male was called Kai-Kai which I think means victory and the female panda was called Jia-Jia which means beautiful. The act of gifting these pandas was also a way of promoting the conservation of giant pandas as they are an endangered species.

As you enter their enclosure there's a sudden drop in temperature because maintenance of temperature is an important part of providing them with a proper and comfortable habitat. They were kept separately at different sides of the enclosure which was separated buy a bridge kinda construction.

At the time that we were there the female panda was asleep and she seemed to be weirdly comfortable with that position and didn’t even move a muscle.

Whereas, on the other side, the guy panda was ever so happy with his food that he didn’t even bother to notice all the people watching him. Apparently, in order to have freshly cut bamboo, the plant needs to be transported form a nursery and stored in a special room. 20 kgs of bamboo! That literally how much they consume each day.
The landscape provided to them was inclusive of many plants, some boulders and even what seemed like a waterfall.
It was hella cute to just watch them chillin and do what they do. As much as you wanna jump in and cuddle with them, do contain yourself because the security dude takes his job pretty damn seriously.

Hi @tanyarobinson,

Are you from Singapore?

We are currently trying to create a Steemit community for fellow Singaporeans or residents.
Inspired by what other countries had done (teamaustralia, teammalaysia, etc), a community will help Singapore Steemians to grow together. We can share ideas, collaborate efforts and learn from each other.
If you are interested, feel free to join this newly created Facebook group and unite together! https://www.facebook.com/groups/steemsingapore/
Or you can find out more in this post https://steemit.com/teamsingapore/@culgin/steemit-journey-calling-out-to-fellow-singaporeans
Hope to see you participate in this community! #teamsingapore
