Random fact and post inspired by a comment

I hadn't figured out what I would post next till I saw a comment on @charisma777 post where @bashadow was mentioning veggies and mentioned corn. When I saw that I realized that many people still mistakenly call corn a veggie. When in fact it is actually a grain. Though there are some arguments that only feed corn is a grain and sweet corn is a veggie.

I live in corn country

Indiana is located in the wetlands it is known for Basketball, The Indy 500 and Corn. Growing up on the edge of town it was common for us to pick an ear or two towards harvest time. It tasted good just like all the other ears of corn we ate. What we found out as we got older was that it was feed corn. Corn is corn in a can people call it a veggie but in reality it is a grain.

So the next time you reach for a veggie

Remember corn is a grain. But if you want to eat it as a veggie it is all good. Even popcorn is a grain. Sorry guys your favorite popped snack is actually healthy for you. ( as long as you don't drown it in oil)

Even the Food and Drug Admistration has a new chart out

Love corn, always just lumped it into veggies in my mind. Sort of like tomatoes are technically a fruit but widely lumped in with vegeatbles.

For most they are my dad grew up as a farmer and use to say it don't matter what that can says it will always be a grain.

I'd say I'm surprised if people think corn is a veggie, except I've seen the Jamie Oliver show where he quizzed high school kids about food and they had no idea where any food came from...

I remember being told techincally I was right in elementary school when the teacher said it was a veggie and I said no it was a grain. She then said though I was techincally right the food chart called it a veggie so would we. I look back now it was the start of trying to dumb down kids.

Ugh...

I didn't know that. I personally love Corn, but after having watched a lot of these food documentaries I try to stay away from it. I forget the stats but outside of the whole or raw food in grocery stores literally everything is made out of corn, drinks with corn syrup, chips made with processed corn, many cereals and chips, literally everything is made out of corn.

Were starting to see kind of a movement away from corn syrup, coca cola and other brands are getting back to pure cane sugar. I try to avoid processed foods and stuff for this exact reason.

Corn I embrace now as for hfcs and other products made from corn I try to avoid.
