Making Diaper Cakes

in life •  7 years ago

One of the many ways I have helped my family make ends meet is by making diaper cakes. This one I did for my nieces baby who was born prematurely, she is doing very well now. But I wanted to share with people with a little creativity you can make extra money to make ends meet. That being said if I would have made a cake like this for a client it is on the more expensive end running $80. But there are 180 diapers, wipes, blankets, and a lot of other stuff once it was all done. The first two photos are photos of the beginning stages after I got the base part done.

This is what it looked like when done.

I also did some tiny bassinets with a tiny diaper baby in them

This is another diaper cake I did it is a cheaper one that runs in the $20 range, additional things can be added but each things added rises the cost of the cake. They are fun to make and with babies being born all the time they have been a nice little side income.

Now days I only make them for family or when I get an order for one from referrals but when we need extra money I make a few and post them on eBay and I have the money I need. If you are struggling think outside the box and if you need to learn how to do something google and YouTube are great tools to learn just about anything.

I did not put step by step instruction in this because this is about what I do to make extra money for my family not how to make a diaper cake and there are a ton of tutorials on YouTube which can show you how to make them. That is how I learned.

These are really cute and it's great that you invested the time and energy into creating something to help your family's financial needs. I did something similar recently when I began making home made goat milk soap as a hobby. I looked into selling it, but unfortunately, I live in a state that has so many rules for selling things, it ended up being more trouble than it was worth - but it was still nice to learn a new skill and I still make it for family and friends. :)
