Hey Y'all! We are so glad you found us here on Steemit!
We are so excited to be part of this new community that is based on freedom, liberty, and respect. So for those of you who don't know us, let's take a minute and tell you our story...about 3 years ago we were a family living in the North East in a big house with an even bigger mortgage and lots of overhead and debt. My husband, foundly known on our channel as TexasDad, was stressed and just trying to make ends meet and run a business working 80 hours a week. While I, TexasMom, was caught up in trying to maintain a house, raise 3 little boys, and stay sane living in a fast paced world. During the last year we lived there, we were introduced to a couple families that were really different. One family talked to us about "preparedness" and having extra food and provisions stored up just for those "rainy days" that most people experience in one way or another. We thought this idea of "preparedness" was wise so I began to research and map out a game plan for our family. Month after month, I took from the normal grocery budget and instead put that money into shelf stable foods and provisions. As a result, we learned to eat simply and cook from scratch. I continued down this "minimalist" lifestyle road and before long we had a small flock of chickens in our side yard! So then,as perfect timing would have it, we were introduced to another family that were trying to homestead on their 5 acres. We were amazed in all that they were accomplishing while working full time professional jobs and raising a large family. They had every kind of farm animal you could imagine and the wife loved all things homemaking and living simply. We had never really met anyone like these two couples before and were intrigued by their passion for a more simple life. So before long, I was carving out a little garden spot in my front yard and planting in containers on our back patio and begging my husband for a couple dairy goats! LOL We got bit by the homestead bug and suddenly, overnight it seemed like, we were as crazy and passionate as our new friends were! So it had always been in our hearts to move out of the Northeast. There were so many things about that area that went against who we were and definitely against who we were becoming. What things you might ask? Well, we are a very conservative minded homeschool family and those ideals paired with our desire to live simply was not a commonly accepted lifestyle. BUT...there was one big catch to all of this change...my husband's business was doing extremely well and supporting our family. My husband decided that as long as the business continued to do well we would stay put. In my mind, I thought that things would always continue the way that they were and there were many things I did love and enjoy about where we lived. So I made peace with the fact that we may indeed live our entire lives there. However, when September 2013 came around , all of his business ceased and we began to live off of savings. As the months went on, we began to watch our savings dwindle and hope of the business reviving itself faded away. At the end of December that year, we received some heartbreaking news that forever changed our perspective on life and made us re-examine everything. So we decided to go take a drive out to the midwest to visit those "crazy preparedness" friends of ours that had moved several months beforehand to pursue their family dream of having a homestead and living a more self reliant lifestyle. During the visit with our friends, things became more clear and a sudden burst of braveness overcame us! So the decision was made that we would be strategically relocating our family to Texas in one months time. I remember getting back to our house and trying to wrap my mind around the fact that everything was about to change! I took some painters tape and taped off a 6X12 spot on our living room floor. Anything that could fit inside that spot would go with us, everything else would be sold, given away, or put in the dumpster. So we had given ourselves 30 days to make these decisions on where we would live, work, and eventually homestead. We had a close friend that wanted to live in our home so that was a blessing to him and us. So fast forward 30 days later and we are packed with a little 6X12 uhaul behind us containing personal belongings, some toys, 2 mattresses, and all of that food storage that I had accumulated. As we pulled out of our driveway, we knew one thing, that we were heading to Texas. We did not know where we would live or what my husband would be doing for work. Our faith was in the Lord alone to provide for us. It took us three days driving through a horrible snow and ice storm to get here. When we arrived, we checked in at a hotel in a town where my husband was promised a job interview. I'm going to stop the story here and just say you're going to have to tune in next time to hear how faithful and merciful the Lord was to our family in the days that followed. But for now, be blessed my friend, and I hope you enjoy getting to know more about our family here on Steemit...~TexasMom
