Guy Asks a Girl out on a Date, Then Sues Her for a $17.31 Movie Ticket

This has got to be one of the most surreal stories that I’ve read lately. And this is significant because we still live in a world ruled by politicians.

The story goes like this:

Some dude from Texas asks a woman out, she says yes. He ends up having a bad date and decides to sue her for $17.31. The exact price of the ticket.

Needless to say, you know you it’s a bad date when it ends with the following sentence:

“Your lawyer is gonna be hearing from my lawyer!”.

So what? You had a bad date, it happens to all of us. Sometimes you don’t call back, sometimes she doesn’t call you back. Trust me, it happens.

What doesn’t usually happen is that you end up getting the government involved, and then you start bringing in judges and lawyers...

Dude, that’s what marriage is all about. Save that bureaucracy for later.

You know how people say that women like men in a suit?

Well, they actually meant that you should dress nice when you take her out for dinner, not when you take her to court.

Jokes aside - And believe me, I’m having a hard time stopping - This is not how dates work, the girl has no obligation to fulfill any of your sexual or emotional needs.

You’re just meeting each other, she hasn’t made her decision about you yet… It all depends on how well the night goes.

The good news is that she agreed to go out with you, all you have to do is not screw it up.

What you can’t do on the other hand is expect sex in return of the movie fare. Cause what would that make of her? A $17,31 hooker?

See how crazy this is?

Now I know, it’s easier to blame the smartphone generation since the girl in question may or may not have spent some amount of time on her phone to avoid a bad date.

But you know what? No one was forcing him to stay with her if it wasn’t going so well.

After all, one of the most attractive things to women is when a man has the ability to walk away.

Clinginess on the other hand… Not so much.

And I know, it’s easy to brush this off as how entitled this new generation of millennials is… But then you realize that the guy is actually 37.

So it’s not his first date either, he knows how this stuff works.

The thing is, this is not a new phenomenon at all.

How many times have you seen in the following situation a bar?

Guy buys a girl a drink, they start talking, maybe they end up having a good time, maybe they don’t.

In the second case, the guy knows that it’s not going well, but still hangs in there insisting and insisting... Would you please give me your number?

He knows that the more he keeps showcasing insecurity, the less he’s doing himself any favors.

But he keeps on doing that nevertheless, it seems as if he had some investment to protect.

The moral of the story is: The girl didn’t owe him anything, she never did. Just like the guy before him.

You can’t possibly feel entitled that any girl should like you, love you or have sex with you just because you bought her a fruity little drink or some action movie ticket.

You can't expect anyone to like you back, these things happen for a host of reasons, most of them are elements that you cannot control.

What you can control on the other hand is to chose to focus on the positive side, which is that she has already agreed to spend time with you.

Or you can keep blaming the girl and crying at the skies that you are owed in the love department.

At the end of the day, it’s your choice. It’s all up to you.

And on that note, if there is a girl you like, or a man you like, please take a chance, ask them out. As the great Wayne Gretzky used to say:

“You miss one hundred percent of the shots you don't take.”

Just don’t sue them afterwards. 😉
