Should the United States Ban Guns?

Thank you for making a very important point. This is a very important angle in fact and I speak from my own medical knowledge. Obviously drug companies will not like this kind of information and they are powerful. It is not just antidepressants and shootings though I think it is also an issue with depressed young men who commit suicide on these mediations being suppressed. There was a big scandal in the medical community about this about a decade ago.

Im going to post this info on my blog today. Its important that this gets out...because with so many replies to your post it sort of got buried. It doesn't negate the gun control debate, but it definately puts a damper on one sides biggest point. I'd like to hear more about the scandal you mentioned from your perspective.

Well I wan't directly involved in it but from what I understand the drug companies "allegedly" tried their hardest to suppress research that suggested that SSRi antidepressants (like Prozac, Seroxat etc.) increase suicide risk particularly in younger people.

This was a matter of considerable and heated debate in the medical/psychiatric community for some time.

I am not an expert on it but I think you can probably find a lot useful information from medical/psychiatric sources on this - a lot of esteemed journals covered it.

I might do a post on it in the future after doing more research as I don't want to get the facts wrong and end up getting into trouble for that as they (drug companies) do have a lot of power and lawyers!
