Wonderful story Mark. And one good to keep in mind all the time. Thanks for sharing.

I come from a poorer country than yours and I've noticed it's the poor people who care about each other more. It's them who give away whatever it is they still have to give. The rich are most often than not afraid to lose what they have. Some are driven by fear, the others by love and care.

My feeling is that the more 'developed' we become, the less time and caring and love we have for each other. I'm not saying there aren't exceptions. There are.

Once I was hitchhiking and was picked up by a man with a fancy car. There's a habit in my country that most drivers pick up hitchhikers for some 'extra' money. And it's almost never those with nice shiny cars that stop. This guy didn't want anything. I asked him why. Why he picked me up. He said he was like me once, hitchhiking because he didn't have money and that he knows what that means. And he wanted someone to talk to.

He's not the only one like that, I know.

But I noticed a general trend, that people picked me up less and less in the recent years. We're developing as a country as well, and I feel that people don't have time for each other too much. Hell, I'm guilty of that myself too. I noticed it on me, so... I feel that thing, that you want to get out of the mess and stuff, and that there's not much time to take a break from everything and become human again.

But I see hope when I hear or read stories like that. :)

Your story brought tears to my eyes, so moving and I loved it. We are such ass hats here in the US! I too work to pay it forward, in hopes to start a trend of giving back! Thank you for being one of my teammates!

That's what's expected they've done you a favour when you were stranded in the roads stopping down SUV however that saying is quite right.
At least they helped you today, tommorow or may be your turn to reciprocate to someone else

I used to sell chocolate bars after school when I was a teenager to make money. The poorer the neighborhood, the more chocolate bars we sold. People were nicer. They took time to at least hear out your speel and say "Not interested, sorry, I'm diabetic" or something. In rich neighborhoods you got doors slammed in your face and treated like a beggar....

A wise man once said, help those you can today cuz you do not know who would help you tomorrow.

I'm glad that there are still people with a generous and large heart. And with folks like this, the world is surely gon b a better place.

I recently was in an accident. My car was at the body shop till yesterday afternoon. For once in my life- something good came of getting in an accident.

The body shop not only fixed the damage but they fixed everything that had been wrong with my car. Wiring, headlight trouble, fixed damage done to my car by “keying”, I was genuinely impressed by their workmanship. Your post made me think of this- so I thought I’d share. Thanks!

It's the twenty four hour news cycle with all the little filler horror stories of people stopping to do good deeds and end up getting hurt or killed that scare a lot of people away from stopping. For a couple years I tried to escape the city life and moved to a less populated stretch. The houses weren't stacked on top of each other but the road was rather busy. I had a couple instances of people knocking on my door because their car ran out of gas. The first time I didn't really know what to do, I didn't want to leave the guy stranded out in the cold so I got a friend on the phone and told her to call me in five minutes and stay on the phone with me until I took this guy for gas, I grabbed my dog and we went up the road and got him some gas while I talked to her on the phone. The second time my son was there and he went with us. I still think about the first time and I shouldn't have really done it, it's just to risky in today's world. If I seen a woman stranded on the side of the road I'd stop just because it isn't the safest situation for a woman to be alone in, otherwise I do call and report a motorist stranded that the most I can do to ensure the safety of everyone.

This is such a wonderful story.

I think the biggest reason that people don't stop to help now is fear. Despite the fact that we live in the safest time in history, we're fed fear nonstop in the news. And then every other horror movie starts with a broken down car. It gets to the point where you can't even imagine stopping to help someone that's broken down without picturing yourself tied up in some serial killer's basement.

Thanks for spreading the good vibes, man. It's important to remember that things don't have to be this way.
