Hey Hey! Check out what I got for lunch!!

Every once in a while you get a ‘showoff’ that just wants you to know that they are capable of achieving things that are almost unbelievable & basically annoyingly impressive. Orca themselves are typically like that. They express what can be considered as a high sense of pride after they have successfully taken out their prey, especially if that prey took them sometime, lots patience and problem solving skills to successfully obtain.

This was the case with this pod of orca, whose lunch/prey/California sea lion was hiding amongst some bull kelp. These animals slowly pulled the kelp apart so they could get to their snack, which did in fact take roughly 45minutes to achieve.

Then it was snack time and the Matriarch of the pod aka Mum decided to syphop in front of my zodiac to show off the tasty blubber she was indulging on… At this time my eyes were bulging. Impressive? Yes. Intimidating? Hell yes!

Would love to see some Orca up close like this. Have only seen them in the distance sailing in Alaska.

I hope you get the chance to see them up close one day soon! It is unforgettable

Nice composition, that bird (seagull?) really helped you out!
