Despite the daily doomsday news headlines that we are bombarded with, the overall quality of human life is great. It is statistically proven we are more healthy, educated, prosperous, safe, and happy.
It turns human nature is not "short, brutish, and nasty." It's flourishing.
Even though we are suffering through these "Trump Times" via scare-mongering, xenophobia, racism, and an overall dystopian view of the world - we are already creating a better world for ourselves if we read between the lines.
Unfortunately, there's no money in peace..
We are purposefully driven to create discord with one another through divisive media outlets, corrupt leaders, and corporations looking to profit off of our contempt for one another. We are much stronger together, and I wish more people would look at the bigger picture, coupled with the trends and statistics that support it.
Don't let the Negative Media Get you Down
It's hard to not get depressed after watching the news. It's almost as if some tragedy happens every hour, on the hour. We need to understand that the media networks and publishers are FOR PROFIT. And unfortunately that means most of them will do anything and everything to consume one more minute of your time.
We live in an attention economy and the scarcest resource is our attention.
1.) In 1850, only 10% of the population could read. Now, over 85% of people in the world can read!
2.) A century ago, the average lifespan was 50 - now it's almost 80.
3.) Two centuries ago, 85% of the world's population lived in extreme poverty. Now, according to the U.N. it's only 10%.
4.) Global violence rates are decreasing at rapid rates.
5.) Global democracy is at all time high
6.) IQ Raises 3 points every decade
The common denominator seems to be technology. As we increase our ability to communicate with one another, we are better able to understand one another. Once we fully understand and realize that we truly are all the same, the geographic, political, and socioeconomic boundaries fade.
Call to Action: Be the change you wish to see in the world. We really are all the same, and if we work together, the universe is our oyster.
These are just some of the statistics I found captivating, do you have any that you'd like to share?
