The Number One Ingredient For Great Success: Commitment

Today I want to talk about dreams. No not the ones that you get when you sleep but the ones that you generally get during the day. We all have dreams of things that we want to have and dreams of becoming someone in life, someone much better and accomplished than our present selves.

It is important yo have dreams. A wise man once said, “If your dreams do not make people laugh, they are not big enough.” I truly believe in this and I think you should dream as big as possible because if you shoot for the stars, you will at least land on the moon.

All of us are different and we want to choose our own path in life and our own destination. That’s the beauty of life. So many people pursuing things and careers that make them happy. I too, am doing the same.

Most people pursue what they are passionate about and passion is often regarded as the most ingredient of success. That is true of course because if you are not passionate about something, I doubt that you would even begin to walk towards that direction. If you are passionate about music and if you hate, let’s say, science, then would you want to pursue science as a career? No, right? Your passion would take you towards the world of music.

Today I was thinking about the same and as I was thinking about it, I realised that though passion is a very important ingredient in our road to success, there is one other very important thing that people do not realise the importance of and that is commitment.

If passion makes you start a journey, commitment is what keeps you on it. Yes, passion is important as a motivator in life to set a direction but it may not always lead to success if you are not 100% committed to it with all your heart and soul.

It takes a lot of discipline and hard work to remain on the path you have chosen for yourself. These days it is easy for anyone to wander about and lose your bearings especially if you listen to other people who may or may not have your best interest at heart and may end up confusing you.

Then there are times when life pushes you down and instills self doubt especially when you are on a continuous fail streaks. It is times like these when you might begin to question your dreams and turn back.

This is my point. Passion got you started but if you are not committed to the end goal, there is no use pursuing it. You can take some real life examples as well.

Great men and women throughout history have achieved greatness because they kept on pushing themselves and moving forward despite whatever life threw at them. They were patient and ultimately, they tasted the sweet taste of success which is even more worth it if it comes after a long and arduous journey.

If you are having troubles achieving your dreams or your passions, I would like to tell you to stay committed to your end goal and just keep it on your mind at all times and also to keep moving forward no matter what even if it is a little bit. Even an inch closer is closer than before.
