Dairy Farmer Explains Why Those Who Troll Vegans Are Wrong To Do So

I'm a meat eater but I completely support anyone who chooses to be vegan. I'm a farmer's son and grew up on a diary farm so eating animals and death doesn't bother me as much as it should. I would however like to see how the people that take the piss out of vegans would cope if I took them to a slaughterhouse. I'm not sure how I would cope nowadays as I've been out of farming for over 20 years.
It's the cattle that really get to you. Seeing a fully grown bullock hanging by it's leg bleeding out immediately after it's been killed is not something you would want to see. That's nothing to compared the noise. It's the live ones in the holding pen that really get to you. Even if they are visually shielded from the killing area they still really holler, they know what's coming and it's distressing to see and even more so to hear. I guarantee 99% of people would shit their pants and cry like babies if they saw and heard it. Don't think eating organic is any different, they all die the same way.
On top of that the ever increasing level of global beef production is an environmental catastrophe that has been going on for years. It dwarfs all the emissions from planes, trains, automobiles and factories. Beef consumption is an incredibly environmentally inefficient and destructive way of feeding the world's population.
Dairy production isn't great either. Cows produce ridiculous amounts of milk nowadays due to a combination of selective breeding and technology. It literally wears them out and they are slaughtered after a fraction of their normal lifespan. Imagine as a woman being bred to have tits the size of watermelons, having a forced pregnancy at the age of 12, having your child taken away within days, then being milked for months until it runs dry, then another forced pregnancy, another child taken away and so it goes on. Redemption comes at the age of 18, if you make it that far, when you are slaughtered in the manner I described above.
Most dairy cows don't see a field as it's impractical with massive herd sizes to graze cows nowadays. Instead they are zero grazed which means the farmer will cut fresh grass in the summer months and take it to the cows which are housed indoors all year round.
They absolutely love being turned out in the spring. I've done it loads of times and it's hard to describe how happy they are at their first sight of fresh grass and the outdoors after being inside all winter.
The Darling Buds of May image that many might like to hold onto just isn't there anymore if you want cheap food. Cheap food (and it is cheap) costs animals and the planet in ways that you can't begin to imagine.

My Comment

There is no valid medical, anatomical or scientific reason why humans 'must' eat dead animals. The claims that vitamin B12 can only be ingested via dead animals is false. B12 is found in soil and on the outside of plant food that has not been thoroughly washed and processed as occurs with supermarket products. It is not that we are 'just not made to live from plants', but rather we have been conditioned to be removed from the process of food production and thus no longer really understand food and thus our own bodies. Our body is extremely adaptable to a degree far beyond what most have yet imagined.

There is no valid argument against veganism and that is part of why the nay-sayers and trolls often just resort to outright abuse of vegans and vegan activists. If you don't understand vegans then you are in denial, in error and possibly need to consider you are totally disconnected from real feelings.

Wishing you well,

Great post. If more people had to meet their meat I think there would be far fewer carnivores. Growing up in Dublin city centre in the early 60s there was a slaughter house in our street, which perhaps explains my life long aversion to meat.

Yes, I agree. Really, 'meat' is ME AT.. It's where ME is AT.. There's always a ME involved :/

This share brilliantly pictures the actual scenario. Yes most non-vegans live in denial of truth. Resteemed it for more exposure!

Thankyou!

Great post and very informative. I became a keto-vegan after discovering that many foods and especially meat just didn't agree with me health-wise. Plus I also don't think it necessary for a creature to suffer and die in order for me to dine well and healthily.
I see many many overweight and obese people who are meat eaters, but I've yet to see an overweight vegan.
Since giving up meat and most carbs, I have much greater energy and the problems I had with inflammation is much improved. I am way more alert, and my skin is clear and fabulous.
Veganism is so much more healthy.

I absolutely agree and know very well that your experience is shared by pretty much everyone who maintains a vegan diet consistently - while ensuring they meet their nutritional requirements.

It is definitely possible to be overweight as a vegan, but that usually comes down to eating junk food as far as I am aware. Thanks for sharing!

I agree with you friend and share your opinion

Aloha! Thanks for expressing support!

I would like to be vegan, I live fairly aligned with it, but not there yet

Excellent! I suggest using the internet to learn about the nutritional profile of plants and maybe visiting some vegan events/groups to find what's needed to make the transition easy. When I started I had very little help and it was hard at the start. I actually did a fast/cleanse for two weeks and at the end of that my taste buds were 'reset', meaning that i found plant food to be tasty instead of lacking. ;)

I'm lacto ovo pescatarian yet my heart as an animal lover knows it's not enough.
Great article.

thanks!

Thank you man! I appreciate that :)

Really nicely said! So accurate. Putting that pride down can sometimes be the most difficult part. Our ego's are sometimes our worst nightmares!

You stay awesome as well! Thank you very much :)

nice post

So, I LOVE your graphic at the end with your name. I approve of the pink and need one, who made yours?

Also, I've been a vegetarian for almost 2 months now on and off. I didn't do it because animals were killed. I've seen them killed before and my mouth actually watered;I really like meat. I stopped eating meat because of the way they were raised it's not quality meat that we're eating. However, your post brings a really good point. People do not realize the quality that they think they're getting. I'm working my way towards one day being vegan. Baby steps!

My suggestion is to learn to be less mentally dominated and to connect to the real emotions that will allow you to empathically connect to the living beings we call 'animals' and when that bond is formed, you are more likely to vomit than salivate at the thought of eating their dead flesh.

Great works and explanation.
Me and my wife are vegetarians

i showed this to a friend he like's this ;)

Thanks! The point here is that vegetarianism really isn't enough to prevent the suffering that's involved. It's pretty easy to make the step on to veganism now. :)
