What's happening to my Reading hobby?

in life •  7 years ago

The more I read, the more I discover what I don't know. And the more I want to read.

For the sake of clarity: Ignorance in this post is not used in the negative, abusive sense. The meaning we are working with is 'not being aware of something'.

What happened to my Interest in Reading?

If you've never had much interest in reading, it's mostly because you didn't give yourself that initial push to read in the first place. It's like anything that requires motivation. You may not want to do it at first. But when you push yourself to start, and you develop an interest in it, it's kind of hard to stop.

If you don't start reading, you won't find out the things you don't know. You end up walking around with the illusion that you already know enough to get by comfortably. But once you begin to discover what you don't know, it's like a light in the darkness. You discover your ignorance. I have never met anyone who's satisfied with ignorance.

How Can I get it back?

Once you know that you don't know something, but you need to know it, you go about the process of knowing. It's a drive on its own; to know.

Many people I meet who don't like reading are people who didn't give time to reading in the first place. I don't believe in the idea that reading is not for everyone. Reading is a form of communication; from the author's mind to your mind. Is communication not for everyone?

Once you start reading, the urge to fill up the blanks you discovered grows. The more you discover the blanks, the more fervent your reading habit gets. The urges wells up and grows into this immense hunger for knowledge.

I must confess I have derailed from my quest for knowledge. Because I succumbed to the pressures of life that mounted up mostly in 2017. But I feel that emptiness inside to read something. And as I was brushing my teeth this morning, this idea came into my head and I decided to share it with you in this blog post.
