Each minute makes it heavier...

You've heard the typical "is the glass half empty or half full" question.

A psychology professor who was teaching a course on stress management held a glass of water in front of her class and asked a different question:

"How heavy is this glass of water?"

Students shouted out answers ranging from eight ounces to a couple of pounds.

"From my perspective," the professor said, "the weight of this glass doesn't matter. What matters is how long I hold it for."

If I hold it for a minute, it's fairly light.

If I hold it for an hour, my arm will begin to ache.

If I hold it for a day, my arm will cramp up and feel numb or even paralyzed, forcing me to drop the glass.

Stress and worries in life are like the glass of water. Think about them for a short time and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and you start to ache a little. Think about them all day long and you will feel numb and paralyzed.

One of my 2018 resolutions: Let go of yesterday's stresses and learn to put the glass down.
