I Know Why So Many Businesses Started In Garages In California

Google, Amazon, Apple... they all started in garages in California and I think I know why. If you live in Southern California or even around the San Fransisco area, it never really gets too cold. You can do a lot in your garage if you the weather is always pretty nice.

I have learned that the hard way. My office is in my garage, and I love it... when it's warm.

I've built walls and have bookshelves and a carpet and a couple of screens. It is nice. I really like it and it gives me a lot of freedom when the kids are home on winter break with my wife. I can be completely removed and still get work done.

There is only one probem, it has been cold. Real cold.

The average temperature the past week has been below freezing and it was 6 degrees this morning. I'v got two space heaters and a Snuggie and I'm still cold. The fingers take it the worst. It gets harder and harder to type in the cold.

Now I know why there are not garages in Virginia where people create things like Apple. It's too freaking cold in the winter. Most years I can endure, but his year is tough. I'm sticking it through because I like the writing atmosphere in my garage more than I like warmth.

lol

Do you think I'm right? I doubt I am, but thought it made sense.

Where do you like to write? Is it warm?

Let me know in the comments below.

I used to have the garage in California. And it was truly nice weather most of the time. It got a bit hot in the summer though. I had mine carpeted and bookshelves and all my computer gear was out there. Now I live in Idaho and it gets cold in the winter. I still keep some of my computers in the garage. But they are all miners. So while I love the weather in California it is so nice to have cold temps in the winter for mining so I don't have to use the ac to cool the equipment. It's about 6-7 months of low cooling expense for the mining gear. However when the equipment is off it does get cold in there. I still have a gaming area in the garage and a carpeted are all out there. I have to leave a space heater running to warm me up when the temps outside the garage drop below about 30 outside. The snuggie might be a good idea for out there! Maybe you can get yourself a pair of gloves that have some good mobility so you can still type in the low temps.

So you know what I'm talking about! Having a rig would warm it up, but it's only cold like three months here. I'm just complaining cause I can't feel my fingers. lol. Thanks for telling me about your garage experience. I bet we have the coolest garages in the US, no pun intended. lol Thanks for reading.

Today has been about finding the groove to start writing. I had a heavy output in the past few days, especially yesterday. Unfortunately, that output didn't inspire but taxed me. So, I begin the week by pushing through.

To answer your question, I do have a home basement office, but I often enjoy the warmth of good coffee shop, especially those where I can bum free java.

Free Java is always welcome! I'm so glad you made it to Steemit! I hope you have a very successful week!

Lol. That's a pragmatic way to look at it. Hope the weather gets better.

Very pragmatic, lol I can't feel my toes. Thanks for the great reply and you got a new follower. Also I have an autographed picture of Dell Curry hanging in my office.

Holy crap! Jesus Christ! Would love to get my hands on that!

I'll post a picture tomorrow.

Looking forward!

I kind of think you are right. Feel free to share a picture of your garage if you want to;)

I will, but my phone died and my cord is inside. It's a cool space.
Thanks for reading.

I always wondered why they started in garages, I think that you might be right.

I usually write in my bedroom and it is warm lol.

My bedroom is warm too, but the kids on Christmas break make it tough. lol

Just set up a mining rig so you can earn while it heats up your garage :D

lol, That is a great idea but would only work for a two months then the summer would be unbearable, lol. I like your thinking though!

I have a separate space in our basement... The kids call it my lab. Books, electronics and computer systems strewn around. Have a little space heater too. Gets chilly in 'the lab'... But not garage chilly. We use our garage, in the winter, as a second freezer.

lol, I call it the lab too. My kids call it the stinky garage because I'll have a cigarette from time to time or a cigar and light incense. lol

wow this is so good ... learn many thing

Thank man!
