John and Ben are chef and they opened a restaurant in a city.
A year later, John’s restaurant business does not do well, however Ben’s restaurant business is getting better and better each day.
John refuse to accept the truth and ask Ben: My skill is better than you, how can you be more successful than me?
Ben then take out a notebook, on the notebook:
Day xx, found three good shop location today. I would like to hire someone to observe the passenger flow, then choose the highest passenger flow location to open my restaurant.
Day x, after few days of observation, finally selected this location. Must redecorate the entrance.
Day x, quite a lot of people walking around, but not much people walk into the restaurant. Hmmm, what’s the problem? Is it the signboard not big enough, or the word not obvious? Improve it.
Day x, changed to a larger signboard and added LED on the signboard. Well, the crowd significantly increased.
Day x, many customers complain the food too salty. I need to improve the dishes, add less salt, provide dishes that suitable for the local. Other than that, need to get comments from the customers and reward them some small gifts. Put the small gifts at the entrance, so that can attract customers attention, and allow people to see our sincerity.
Day x, Plan to add takeout platform, which can increase the sales. The menu for takeaway must be clear so that customer can understand easily. Don’t put strange name, customer might loss interest if it's too complicated.
John puzzled, and asked Ben: Is this the secret to make your restaurant so successful?
Ben answered: Of course not. I'm just listing down how can I improve my restaurant’s business. There are approximately 300 things to improve, perhaps adding them together, will make my business successful.
John: Among these entries, which is the key to success?
Ben: Among these 300, I do not know which one is the key to success. But I will put what I can think of and what can benefit the customers together. Continue doing this, I will eventually increase my service quality, hence more and more customers will come.
Will I reach a certain result (success) if I done these 300 things? But in these 300 things, which is the real key to the final success? No one knows.
Even a successful person himself, he might not know.
So, when you’re listening to the speech of a successful person, be careful, because he might intentionally or unintentionally lying to you.
Like Ben, his success, in fact, came from more than three hundred of small improvements.
But these improvements some are really useful, some are useless, even he himself does not know which works.
So what can we learn from this? Only one thing: continuous improvement.
Start from improving small things, improve with sincere, so that you are one step closer to success.
However, we need to understand this, despite our infinite improvement, infinitely close to success, but in the end you might not be successful, it’s all depends on fate.
Failed to success is normal, you need to have patient, if you too anxiety, it most probably going to fail.
Failure is not shameful, give up after failure, that is really shameful.

No way! :-) When I was in 5th grade in school in the United States (my dad was seconded there for work) in Washington DC, I did a project on Malaysia. I have been fascinated by the country ever since.
I always remember that interesting sounding capital city name, Kuala Lumpur. What many people in South Africa (my home country) don't realize is that one of the main languages here, and my native language, Afrikaans, has a lot of Malaysian influence in it. Also our food is heavily influenced by that country and their culture.
Do you still live there?

Yes, success is built up constantly. Of course there is no universal formula for success but every one needs to find its own. And not to give up.
