Body Image and our self-esteem

We all may know about the powerful connection between body image and our self-esteem. Especially during 'teen years' body image works as one of the major influencers to grow or direct self-esteem. Before dealing with negative body image and low self-esteem as the reason behind it, we have to understand what actually those two things are.

Body Image can be defined as our thoughts and feelings about our own bodies. People around us, our social system, media everything works as an active force to shape our body image, or more precisely forces us to feel certain about our self. And I define Self-Esteem as to how we recognize ourselves, like how much we love ourselves or appreciate ourselves.

Self-esteem is the thing which gives us the power to go ahead, the confidence to deal with others and our works, the courage to step forward and fight with any odds. And sometimes body image plays a negative role in all those things. You may notice several times, how your surroundings or you yourself make you feel bad regards your body no matter how beautiful you are or healthy you are. We all may accept that at some point in our life we all face this problem that our body image makes us feel bad or less confident. So why should we give others or even us the chance to feel such a way just because of our body image?


  • The first thing we should do is, 'feeling confident about our body, about our skin color, about our race.' We are not perfect and no matter how imperfect you want to be you will never be in this judgemental society. So be confident.

  • The second best thing to boost up self-esteem is 'living a healthy life.' It will help you feel good about yourself. You can not do anything about your skin color or the way you look. But staying healthy will give you the confidence, you will feel good about yourself and also you will lose some weight if you have any overweight.

  • And in last 'Stay positive'. Don't give the society or anyone to judge you on the basis of your body. You are what you think you are. Try to focus on your own work, on your uniqueness and work on improving yourself. This will help a lot to fight against anything in the long run.

Don't feel down. don't make yourself a victim. Love yourself and improve.
