Why I doubled down on Steem!

in life •  6 years ago

I don't even know how to play poker, but I'm good with the ladies and Ms. Luck is on my side!

I came out of my study coma yesterday and to my surprise, awoke to a brand new post HF20 Steemit. Now I don’t fully understand everything that has been changed, but I did some research on some new initiatives that reignited my love for Steemit.

I’m sure many of you have already heard of @steem-ua, but give me a break because I have been mia for a minute.

When I first joined Steemit a year and a half ago I was very optimistic for the future of this platform, which slowly faded as more and more people discovered new ways to abuse the system.

I used to dream of the day where I would reach the reputation of 60 and spent hours writing and curating that summer to establish a presence in a sea of spammers.

I was sure that after I reached a high rep, the upvotes would start flowing in and I would be that much closer to financial freedom.

The ability to buy votes completely uncoupled the relationship with reputation and quality, which made me feel like all of my hard work was for not.

Thus started a pattern of picking up and dropping steemit every few months, losing faith more and more every time I “closed up shop” for good.

@steem-ua solves the problem with reputation as well as many others that were crippling this platform including self-voting and the lack of genuine connection and curation.

Everyone is assigned a UA score, which essentially replaces the old reputation system. What’s cool about this reputation is that it takes into account how you interact with other, the quality of your followers, and the quality of your posts and gives you a ranking that will decide how large of an upvote you will receive from @steem-ua.

This isn’t another upvote schemed circle jerk!

As of writing, @steem-ua has over 330,000 steem power that is used to upvote those who participate in the initiative. What makes this cool is that you only have to delegate 25sp to get an upvote from the account and your upvote depends on your reputation!

That’s right, how you use Steemit actually matters again! Can you believe it?!

This is going to open the doors for every account no matter how small or large to benefit from participating in the Steemit community!

Why don’t I just upvote myself 10 times a day if I have a lot of sp?

One up-vote from @steem-ua each day is actually more than what you would receive if you gave up all of you mana to self vote!

That means you’re free to use that upvote to go and support you’re favorite steemians and raise that UA score without the knowledge that you are actually receiving a return on you’re steem power investment.

This will in turn act as a positive feedback loop because the higher your UA score, the more you’re upvote will be worth.

Right now my UA score is 3.922 and I have a rank of 4009 compared to all of the Steemains on Steemit, which isn’t that bad for a guy who pops ups every few months to see how my Steemit buddies are doing.

If you’re interested and want more info, check out this article written by @runicar who did a great job explaining the benefits that supporting this initiative will bring.

Well I have to get back to the grind, so until next time, this has been a message from your friendly neighborhood #spiderblogger!

Another interesting piece of work @waphilip

Indeed as time go I also lost some of my optimism towards steemit. Exacly same reasons. There are great content builders here, but there are also those who are abusing the system.

cheers, Piotr

I have also appreciated the work that @steem-ua are doing as it seems as a good concept to balance some other issues on the platform. I personally have been looking towards my own score there as a metric of how I have been doing and how I can improve to see the changes over time. This week I finally got over a 3.0 rep which is great and motivates me to continually improve!

Oh wow you’re catching up to me fast! I really want to be more involved on here to raise my score, but school has been a huge time commitment, so I’m probably gonna be hovering around 4 for a while haha

Good luck tho, and thanks for the comment!
