Chicago Art EXPO is an art fair at Navy Pier consisting of galleries from all over the earth coming together to show off their artists. I got to work at EXPO this year so I had a VIP pass to spend time checking everything out. I got to wear a Nick Cave Soundsuit the opening night on Wednesday. It was crazy to dance around through the ocean of super rich people in a crazy costume lol. I have a photo of me in the suit somewhere in this post. I quickly ran through EXPO this afternoon to share with you all the exceptional art. I will just share them in the order I photographed them.
Jonathan Lasker (below). This painting was in EXPO last year too lol. But I like it. I was kind of doing work like him last year...
Here is a picture of me in the soundsuit:
dancing in that soundsuit straight-up WRECKED me. I am still sore from that and it is now three days after. Here is a video I compiled using footage from other people's instagram. I searched #nickcave and #soundsuit to find them. I used final cut pro to layer them. The video turned out awesome. The sound is the actual music from the night after I was done dancing that I recorded using my cell phone.
These paintings were nice to look at. I have no idea how this artist executes these. They said "acrylic on canvas" they MUST use a sprayer.
I thought to photograph... meme art? mmmk.
this painting was selling for $48,00o. Im sure some of your steemit accounts are worth that much lol
Look at this, made out of electrical wire.
See, this is what the space looks like. There are 4 rows like this in one giant room the size of a football field.
I didn't see the name of this artist but I thought his drawings were gnarly. Definetely WEB-GNAR worthy!
Beverly Fishman. Nick Cave recently curated a Beverly Fishman show. I like some of her work. I liked this one.
This thing was so meticulously painted. wow.
Hey, a De Kooning drawing. Its funny these old works are still out on the market for sale.
I liked these paintings. By some german artist and gallery.
At the time of writing this I cant remember this artists name. Its driving me crazy. Its on the tip of my tongue.
I liked this painting. I think it was called "Yellow, with smokestack"
These paintings really struck me because of how similar to my work they are.
<Above and below>
Hayal Ponzati
70 (Million miles per hour that the Earth orbits around the sun), 2017
Acrylic on canvas
Very interesting to see similar visual language going on elsewhere on the earth. He was represented by an LA gallery.
Manipulating the canvas in a funny way here.
JONATHAN MEESE
German b. 1970
This dude rocks. check out the vice documentary on him. The iron cross is also what a single photon of light looks like. Did you know that?
Look at that little gap between her breast and the background. A nice touch.
Tomory Dodge
Driver, 2016
Oil on canvas
72" x 72"
$70,000
I remember this painting from last year at EXPO. Guess it still hasnt sold haha. I like the piece regardless.
Howard Hodgkin (1932-2017)
'In the Public Garden, Naples'
32.25 x 36.25 inches
oil on wood in artists' frame
1981-82
Textiles and patterning are very INN this year. thats a good thing because my work deals with those elements.
a bunch of tiny dice.
I like this painting.
Mark Grotjhn (b. 1968)
Untitled, 2007
These paintings were really striking to me during the first visit. A contemporary artist whom I have never heard of.
Sarah Dwyer. I will try to follow her on Instagram. I like following good living artists on Instagram because it gets me hyped to get working in the studio.
JOAN MITCHELL (1925-1992)
Untitled, 1960
Oil on canvas
I saw this little painting from afar, and was like "whoa! that person knows how to paint!" of course she is dead. From an era where abstract expressionism was originating.
Alexander Calder

You're welcome. Also I agree, a few of those paintings were very similar to your style. Hopefully you'll be gracing those walls one day soon =)

OMGoddess Zack. No wonder you're still in recovery three days later, after dancing so energetically in the sound suit. Love the whirling dervish effects in the video.
Favourite works. The colour blend: 'Acrylic on canvas' ~ Did something similar with a spray gun when I was at art school. And the dices. Following. Resteemed. 🦋
