20 F/ 2 AM FILLING THE HEATER

in life •  7 years ago

With the temps dropping and staying so low we are having to run the heater 24 hours a day.

Prior to the damage and destruction this did not create a issue because we had 4 kerosene heaters. 1 is none prepper principle.

Now we are attempting to keep the temps up in the greenhouse with 1 kerosene heater.

Tropical bonsai trees grow better when it is hot (melt your face off hot).

The lowest they will survive is 40 (yes there will be damage to leaf and minimal die back).
In the bonsai world the lemons are called restyle opportunities.

Below 40 and root/trunk damage occurs and the potential is death of the trees (10+ years of time to grow them) and a major loss of income.

You can't sell a dead tree!
(well you could if you are unethical and forever be known as a mallsai dealer)

Friday is being forecast as a rise back to about normal temps so I will know by then what kind of damage we sustained.

Prayers and well wishes are appreciated...

Hopefully you won't lose any, especially if you have been going them for that long!!

I have been in bonsai for over 50 years, and yes each time I lose one it hurts.
By Friday I should be able to tell if I lost any.

Melt your face off hot - yikes lol
Hope and pray all are ok ❤

Me too..

What is the outcome? They doing ok?

Seems to be all well.

Oh good!

Hoping all your trees pull through! They sound like they take a lot of work.

Any thing of value takes time.

Oh no, your poor bonsai. I love bonsai. I had a tiny little juniper for a bit. I also attempted my own with a box but put it out one Winter in the ground thinking I'd get to it next year, let's say that box is now 10 feet tall and is clipped as a sphere in my garden every summer. I guess it wanted to be a big topiary more than a bonsai ;) Good luck, stay warm and protect your babies. Can they be wrapped in plastic to increase their humidity and heat like mini greenhouses around each one?

They are all kept in a greenhouse.

Well to be honest, i haven't heard about this tree before, but it waw a great read

What country did you say you live in again?

United states of america.
