What Was Your Worst Job? I Clipped Fish Fins. Engagement

in life •  8 years ago

In the name of engagement and getting to know the community better, I have asked about your first car, your favorite song, and now I want to know what the worst job you ever had was, how you got in and out of it.  Did you learn or gain anything from it?

I will go first:

When I was 21, due to bad life choices I found myself in a difficult financial situation.  I needed a job.  I needed a decent wage.  I was working on my education, needed tuition, gas, food, etc.

Working for the Department of Fish and Game paid much more than some other jobs that I might have enjoyed.  I spent a summer working at the fish hatchery.  Eight hours a day we would trap fish in a holding tank, move them into smaller containers.  Sprinkle some chemical on them that paralyzed them temporarily.  (I don't even want to know what this stuff was)  As quickly as we could, we grabbed a fish, clipped a fin for identification reasons, and tossed the fish into the river.  At the end of the day my hands would be swollen from the cold , I smelled like a trout, and I couldn't wait to get done.  Oddly, this job is one of my proudest moments.  It is when I took my life (and fish) into my own hands and did what I had to do to reach the next step.

This is one of the best posts I have read on Steemit, @whatsup! Thank you for this one!!

;)

Heh... I wrote some posts about mine long ago. I had one that was truly epicly bad. Bad enough it got a 60 minutes special, CEO and VP got indited, etc within a year of me leaving there. I quit with no notice after a month and a half of being there and the VP had tears in his eyes as he tried to convince me to stay. Even offered to match what my new job was offering. I said no thank you.

Oh boy! This is a good one.

I worked/interned at a penny stock firm that was just like the movie Boiler Room. They were constantly having meetings trying to convince us that the SEC had a personal vendetta against the CEO and that was the reason for the investigation. I lasted a week and never made a cent.

A factory warehouse under harsh flouescent lights, putting together circuit boards. Was not allowed to use the restroom and had a 15 minute lunch. There were no chairs. You had to stand at a low table all day. No one was allowed to talk to each other. When 12 pm came for my 15 minute lunch,I got in my car and drove away as fast as I could. This is when I was 21. The pay was 5.00 an hr.

I did customer support in a call center for feature phones,
most problems were the phones were off.

Ha! That is great @walden.

Sat in a truck for 12 hours per day in the hot summer sun, keeping people away from a landslide .. whole area stunk like rotting fish and skunk carcasses.

Oh, I thought I smelled, rotten skunk just reading that.

posting on steemit may have been my worst job ever.

McDonalds, hands down 😣

It looks hard when I see them working there also.
