In 2003 Francis and one other Metis veteran was invited to the opening of the Juno Beach centre - they noticed that there were pavilions for Canada's First Nations and Inuit but nothing about the Metis veterans - they made this known and in 2009 Francis returned with a group of Metis veterans to right this wrong. Francis met with another D-Day veteran Leo Goulet who was also with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and was taken prisoner with him at the battle of Putot - this video shares their stories and their achievement to have a pavilion that remembers the sacrifices of Metis veterans during D-Day and in WWII
