No Regrets

in life •  5 years ago

Good Sunday morning from Youngstown, Ohio. Today’s message with my first cup of the day is, “No Regrets.”

My uncle passed away early this morning. He lived a long and happy life. He served in the military, taught as a high school teacher, and spent many years enjoying his grandkids and traveling the world. I never asked if he had regrets about his life, but I assume there were few as he lived life to the fullest.

As we knew yesterday that only hours remained in his time here on this side of eternity, I thought back to a time when a good friend of mine passed away. I had known he was sick but didn’t reach out to him to catch up. Then I found out about his passing and regretted not connecting one last time.

This morning I thought about my candidacy for U.S. Senate. I ended that campaign with the same words: “No Regrets.” Those were not easy words as it was a tough and stressful campaign. We didn’t have the money and time to do what I wanted. Plus, I was under heavy scrutiny for the choices I made to try to stand by principles and integrity. One can only ever fully please a few people. I walked away, closing that chapter of my life with no regrets.

When I end my life, I want my obituary to say he lived a long and happy life. He lived the second half of his life in personal freedom. He helped people find health and add years to their lives. He helped people discover financial freedom. He gave them the gift of time to live long and happy lives. Above all, he lived with no regrets.

Beverage Credit: My weight loss coffee, of course.
