GET SHIT DONE.

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

I challenge you!

Do these steps, RIGHT NOW.

No, not an hour from now because "I have to eat".

Not 10 minutes from now "When I feel like".

Definitely not 5 minutes from now with an attitude - "Just because".

a. Keep ready the things which you require to finish that:

  • assignment, task, write-up, work, music, furniture, homework, exam preparation;

or whatever work you will do to bring growth in your life.

Right now.

At this moment.

You're doing this - not for me, not for your parents and not even for your children!

And nope, not even for yourself.

b. After the things are ready -

  1. Put your communication gadgets in silent mode
  2. Politely ask people in the room to leave;
  3. Turn off any source of distraction (be it sounds, visuals or otherwise.); and
  4. Make sure you have a silent room.

Because who cares about you, right?

Who cares about what troubles befall you, because, we'll figure it out when that happens, right?

If we DID care about our tasks and responsibilities, we wouldn't be wasting our time reading:

  • A random post,
  • On a random website,
  • By a random person,
  • Who's telling us, in random ways, to get our work done.

So, now that we've established that we're an unproductive mess waiting for the sun to explode...

You're going to do this just for the heck of it, alright?

Why?

c. Breathe. Slowly. Very, very slowly. You and the world are now. . . d e t a c h e d.

  • Inhale deeply through the NOSE (PRO TIP: Imagine yourself at a beach, breathing in the cool, light breeze)
  • Exhale completely through the MOUTH (PRO TIP: As if blowing out a candle.)

Do this thrice.

Because -

A small and soft ice ball set in motion, snowballs into a giant and rock-hard ice boulder!

Sometimes, the things we take for granted end up being the most important thing ever in our life.

You see, once you're done reading this post, it will remain in your thoughts.

Even if it's going to be in a far corner, it will be there - unquestionably, undoubtedly.

What can you do about it?

d. Keep all 'time-telling' devices in another room.

  • This includes your phone, clock, pocket-watch etc.

If you must use a laptop for your work, focus only on your work.

Haha.

A good thought nags at your mind, so that you act on it; a bad thought - so that you busy yourself to prevent it from occurring.

That means, right now, you have to act on that thought.

How?

a. b. c. d. e.

That's how. ;)

e.  Start doing your work.

There's a catch though.

  • Do your work ONLY for 5 MINUTES!

Yes, you will decide, no, feel when those 5 minutes are up.

You are a free bird after your 5 minutes are up.

FAQ Time!

1. Is it mandatory to stop working after my 5 minutes are up?

Nope. If you feel like working more, you should. And trust me, work more - you shall.

2. Does it work? Did you test it? What if it doesn't work? IT DIDN'T WORK DID IT?! Where's the scientific link to this theory? How do I get a refun-

Yes it works. Believe in yourself and everything will work.

Wooohooo!

This has got to be one of the most high quality posts I've read on steemit!
Gotta edit a video that I've been postponing since a long time.
I'm gonna try this to finish off that work! Thanks a lot :D

Great post - I love how you have kind of two trains of thought going at the same time, and how they mingle throughout. More than that... sometimes I need that reminder - just clear the decks and get it done!
(Politely ask people in the room to leave... giggle - as a freelancer who's worked at home for more than a decade, thinking "politely" may be up for interpretation!)

Ayyy this was an unexpected comment, seeing how lonely it had become here xD
Thanks a lot for your compliments! And remember, always be 'polite' P:
Now go get shit done! ✌

Here's an amazing quote that will stay forever in my mind:

"Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work." - Stephen King

Might get that printed someday.

love it!! my mother says "get up and get on with it"

The secret of success! ;)
Thanks for dropping by!

Excellent motivation!
I can say in my experience it works! If someone wants more information, you can read the book "Mini Habits: Smaller Habits, Bigger Results" by Stephen Guise

Thanks @goroshkodo!
Hope I could help increase your productivity in a tiny way.
Will check out the summaries of that book!
