Every February 05 the church commemorates SANTA ÁGUEDA, and this is its legend.
Águeda was born in Catania (Italy) in the year 235 AD of the Julian calendar.
It is said, that by defending their Christian faith, their honor and their purity; He received martyrdom. From a very young age her parents, who were noble and illustrious, consecrated her to God.
As time passed, the Consul of the Sicilian age, Quiciano, very attracted by the physical beauty of Agueda, constantly besieged him to satisfy his low instincts.
The story tells that she confined her to the house of an evil woman named Aphrodisia, who had 5 daughters who prostituted themselves, this was done by Quiciano with the firm intention that Águeda would deny her decision to keep her virginity. When she did not achieve her objective, she wanted him to abandon her faith and ordered that she be imprisoned and tortured with the utmost rigor, to which Águeda responded with firmness and joy. Quiciano, blinded by lack of control and anger, ordered that his breasts be removed brutally, and then cut off, sending him back to a prison deprived of food and medical attention.
It is said that She could receive the help of God being miraculously healed, by Saint Peter. Finally, when the governor learned of what had happened, he determined that she be stripped naked and thrown into the burning embers, later she was confined in a dungeon where, after a fervent prayer, she died.
According to, one year after the martyrdom of the Saint, the Etna volcano erupted and miraculously stopped at the entrance to the village, when the inhabitants asked for his intercession.Diseño sin título.png
