Consider taking an hour for yourself during the busy season of resolutions to think on personal transformation and its meaning to you.

Do you want to emerge from darkness in the next weeks? Do you want to deepen your love for yourself and others, as symbolised by the many powerful peace and compassion symbols this time of year?

Do you want to say goodbye to unproductive habits and hello to a more happy and motivated self as you start the new year?

Whatever personal transformation you want to achieve in the next weeks, Jack Canfield offers five recommendations on how to focus on you and make extraordinary change:

Not effectively addressing our obstacles is one of the key reasons we struggle to grow in life. Do you cling onto previous wounds, anger, or fears? Freeing yourself from these anchors may be the final step to moving forward.

I encourage you to take some time these days and make a list of all the anchors holding you back – unresolved family issues, postponed conversations, house projects you're putting off – then create a schedule for completing each item over the next few weeks. You'll be amazed by your freedom!

To modify yourself, you must understand that change is necessary and unavoidable. President John F. Kennedy said,

Life requires change. Whoever solely looks at the past or present will miss the future.

This transformation can swallow you if you resist. However, life is more joyful when you welcome change and use it to make it richer, easier, and more meaningful.

You will see change as an opportunity for growth and new experiences, not a threat.

Research shows that we talk to ourselves 50,000 times a day, 80% of which are negative.

If your inner voice says, "I shouldn't have spoken that... they don't like me... This is impossible for me... I'm garbage... Very disorganised... You're not alone in feeling like you'll never be excellent.

Overlistening to negative self-talks is the problem. These thoughts affect our mood, motivation, physiology, and biochemistry.

Try to replace negative thoughts with good ones. Starting a daily meditation practice is good. Meditation for five to ten minutes each morning and focusing on the good aspects of your life replaces that critical inner voice with one that supports you and encourages you to succeed.

Habits determine results. The successful don't get there by chance. Motivated action, dedication, and everyday energy are needed to move the lines.

If you want to succeed, you should give up bad habits like not following through on commitments, staying up too late, watching too much TV, making sarcastic comments, eating fast food too often, smoking, and spending more than you earn and replace them with better ones.
