Recently, three incidents have occurred in my life that have corroded part of my joy and contentment. It caused me to reflect thoroughly on where I was, where I was heading, and how change was unavoidable.
My dogs and I were out for a stroll when the first event occurred. Someone in my neighbourhood began putting painted stones on sidewalks and paths shortly after the COVID-19 outbreak.
Encouragement was written on the painted stones, such as "Be safe" and "Be happy." Every time I saw the stones, I couldn't stop laughing. It reassured me that there were decent people among us, and that we would need each other to get through difficult times.
A few metres distant, another chunk of stone with the phrase "Be safe"
Clearly, the stone had been purposely harmed. What about a stone with an inspiring message doesn't appeal to him?
Angry spirits and nihilists have always existed in societies. These are people who wish to see the world burn or who take a sick delight in seeing it burn.
My dogs discovered an abandoned birdhouse on the ground in the second event. The shells from the eggs were found in the nest.
The bird's nest, unlike crushed stone, did not appear to be the result of human interference. Strong gusts had most likely blown him to the ground from a nearby tree.
What had once been a warm and comfortable sanctuary for baby cubs had now been abandoned and thrown away. The nest, in contrast to the fractured stone, was mostly undamaged. However, after a while, the pebbles around him would scatter it.
The cracked stone and shifted nest made me question why nice things don't survive long in our life.
The last presidential debate was the third event. The argument brought with it; I don't believe I need to say much about the partisanship here, except to express my concern that things appear to be breaking apart.
Of course, politics has never been a totally graceful affair, but there was once a certain amount of decorum and etiquette. It appears that there isn't much left!
Bad behaviour has an impact on society beyond the current candidates, leading in more vulgar and contradictory viewpoints, as well as less tolerance. Their primary concern, like everyone else who cares about such days, is to win. The only ethical option is to defeat the other person at all costs...
“Life is full of twisting roads and dead ends, as well as many tests and trials. We've all probably had times when boredom, grief, and despair threatened to overwhelm us.” Nelson, Russell M.
I believe society has evolved, but it has not been for the better. We're seeing more individuals shattering stones, throwing burrows from trees, and being disrespectful and bad-mannered. But I must assert unequivocally that beauty and goodness still exist, and it is not too late for people to seek them out and replenish their spirits, right?
To be honest, Robert D. Putnam's book "Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community," published in 2001, helped me describe what I was going through. The book demonstrates how we are becoming progressively estranged from one another, as well as how social structures like as the PTA, the church, and political parties are collapsing.
It appears to transcend politics, as I have conservative and liberal friends who share my concern. Mine is a creeping type of foreboding.
The question is, how can we halt and reverse this deterioration? How can we revitalise our spirits?
