Based on a 2010 suit by the FTC, the company didn't offer the degree of fraud protection it guaranteed and in fact exposed customers to possible id theft due to its poorly secured databases featuring sensitive customer information, including Social Security numbers. Davis, the company's Chief executive officer, and co-founder had his own identity stolen numerous times. Davis had starred in business ads wherein his real SSN was splashed across the screen to show how well LifeLock worked. Instead, attorneys who brought a 2008 class action against the firm found that more than 20 driver's licenses have been fraudulently obtained using Davis SSN.
