In a society that prefers an elevator; I choose to take the stairs.
I choose to walk step by step, patient enough to feel every new pavement I step on. I refuse to take a short-cut because the best things are not meant to be rushed. I choose to perspire with my integrity intact, rather than be known by everyone but a stranger to my own self. I choose to climb against the force of gravity that pulls me down; I am the only one who’ll say when to stop.
I choose to be called traditional, boring and indifferent as I slowly take the stairs; at least I’m not chasing an empty desire. I choose to take the stairs and this may take time. But I’d rather be a man of experience than of wealth; because success means contentment and I am contented living an honest life to the top.
This mantra sunk into my innermost being during one of the most distressing moments in my life; the day when my most trusted confidant said that I am nothing without him. I don’t want to dig into details but because of that, I begin to question my independence and pride, which is all I have at that moment.
Do I have something to boast beyond the accomplishment I’ve done with my peers?
How much can I do without their help? Who am I to myself?
My first story that I've made and the one who directed it
I know that I’ve been giving my all to learn and partake to the endeavors we take as a team. But to say that I am nothing without them became an awakening for me. I have to step out of my comfort zone and do things the right way; the hard way.
A recent digital sketch that I made on our art class
I started improving myself: in making artworks and in video editing. I also began accepting sidelines, solo, and started to supervise in making short-films- a director, producer, writer and even an actor at the same time.
It wasn’t easy. There were nights where thick clouds of self-loathing swallow me up and days when I wished these things could be easier.
Me editing for a Same Day Edit video for a wedding
But I didn’t give up. I kept on pushing myself beyond limits, beyond failures and beyond other people’s judgment. Solitude taught me that to be a master of your craft and to be able to lead other people demands scars, patience and humility. Only then will you be able to appreciate what success really is.
But don’t get me wrong, I still love my friends and I’ve forgiven those people who said those words. The pain from that experience became another opportunity for me to keep climbing the stairs of my life. No one said it’s going to be easy; But I know, what’s up there will be worth it.
The only line that keeping me inspired. Sometimes, I do adore stairs especially when people are passing by. It's like an art to my eyes. People just wandering around up and down while minding their own business. While I realized that it's has the same scenario with my life.
Life is just like stairs. We're climbing up towards our dreams. Our goals. Step by step. Eventually, our desired goals will be in our own hands.

I am the judge of @mermaidvampire's Life Mantra contest and this is a great mantra.
It is great because it has multiple meanings to me, like taking the stairs is better for your health. You should take your time and work for things, and also that you shouldn't cheat your way to success.
Thanks for the entry,
Have a nice day ~ @cadawg [Judge]

I love this, @gyugmo! I love the imagery you connect - stairs and life - climbing, climbing, feeling the resistance, sitting, continuing on...
I thank those people with their harsh words - whether they were accurate or not, those words pushed you to greater heights than you might have otherwise achieved at this early age in life. Growing is often painful.

You are a rare gem, @qyugmo. You know hardwork by heart and you are ready to do your part to achieve success and it's very commendable. Everyone wants shortcuts and the easy way to everything but here you are doing your thing passionately to get your dreams by hardwork. Kudos to you and thanks for sharing your mantra. You are uniquely inspiring to me. This is one of the last entries but it touched me more than some others. Continue to inspire and keep Steemin'! Thanks for the mention, by the way. I appreciate that, always.
