When it began he was helpless and pure
Not knowing about the world and it's allure
Only knowing that his momma would take care of him
When she was there his day could never be grim
So trusting and innocent she told him never to leave the nest
For he wasn't old enough yet to survive the test
If he left the nest so young he would surely fall to his demise
For if he heeded her warning he would seize the prize
Time flew by and as he got older it seemed harder to obey
For as he looked below at all the creatures having fun he didn't care what she had to say
He would slowly creep farther and farther to the edge
Not caring if he was to fall off the ledge
He had wings and surely he would know how to use them
His eyes glistened in amazement like a glorious gem
But he would never go farther always careful to walk the line
For if he was to go too far he would never be able to find the pine
Finally...his waiting paid off and his mother came to the nest one day much to his chagrin
For she knew nothing of his thoughts and ideas to commit sin
She looked at him with pride and told him it was time to break free
She guided him to the edge and told him to jump from the tree
He jumped and....freedom...glorious bliss
The wind seemed to ruffle his feathers in a triumphant kiss
The sun shined with its glorious rays that seemed to beckon better times
But the moon would soon come and with it the nightly crimes
With one look behind him he saw his mother's eyes
With that he flew away with his on the prize
