They are native to scrub and dry grasslands in areas ranging from the southwestern United States to South America, with centers of diversity, is a medium-sized flowering herb in the daisy family Asteraceae native to the Americas. The species and its cultivars and cultivars are popular as ornamental plants in temperate climate gardens.
