Life's NO Secret #10 | Banh Trang Tron | Rice Paper Salad

Street food has always been the talk of the town wherever we go. It's through these local street delicacies that we're able to witness the real daily life of the people and what they enjoy the most. In Vietnam it is no different. I do occasionally get to witness it myself although there's still more for me to discover.

Bahn Trang Tron or best known as Rice Paper Salad is a very common Vietnamese street snack; easily available at anytime of the day on any streets in Vietnam. Although I have seen it prepared very often by the ladies who sit by the roadside with a huge basket filled with ingredients, it took me this long before finding out what it actually was; even so what's it called.

If it wasn't for a casual coffee chat with my local friend, I would not have known of this dish. Having learned how to pronounced it, I decided to order one for myself today after noticing an elderly lady preparing it with her daughter ( I think ) just outside Vincom Centre in District One.

Putting on my courage look, I said the words in my own version of pronounciation Bang Chang Chuk - Mot. Mot actually mean one in the local Vietnamese language.

Yeap! I learned to pronounced the numbers from one to ten too!

The young daughter nodded her head in acknowledgement. Woosh ! Thank goodness I said it right. Standing by the side, I watched her use a plastic container and began filling it up with the ingredients.

Ingredients
Green mango thinly sliced ( usually sour ones )
Dried tiny shrimps
Shredded rice paper
5 - 6 quail eggs ( boiled & shell removed )
Sauce : Soya souce, red vinegar, sugar, chili paste

With all the ingredients in the container, she used a plastic bag to mix the ingredients properly. No need to use any spoon or spatula to mix it. Just plain simple plastic bag. Then using the same plastic bag, she filled the mixture in it. Talk about multi-use of the plastic bag. Tying the bag nicely into a knot, she gave me a pair of wooden chopsticks.

It cost me VND20,000 = USD0.86 = MYR3.57

Now, where can you find a street snack at this price in the world ! Best thing is it's really tasty with a slight tinge of spiciness. I like it so you can bet that I would order again.

Life's NO Secret is all about sharing; and it can be anything at all. Be it related to health, wealth, lifestyle or education. Sometimes, secrets are not really secrets. It's just that people don't talk about it or it's just been put aside until it becomes a topic to B****** about it. It could be anything under the sun; good, silly, fun, stupid or bad to some extend.

Life's NO Secret is an inspiration of my own in which I hope to share with all of you. NO Secrets means NO Lies. Just plain simple facts.
