When I'm at work, lunch is just a simple meal to fill my stomach. Even if it was food prepared for the rank and file & served in the canteen, I'm perfectly fine with it. It fills the hunger and I don't have to worry about what to eat. Of course, since it's provided, I get to save money which is good. You can call me thrifty or penny wise pound foolish but choosing to work here far away from my family it's all about wanting to save more so that my family can have a better life and my boys have a better education in the future.
Everyone assumes that those who work overseas earn a lot more just because it's in a different currency. To some extend, it is true but the sacrifices is uncountable. Plus, there are expectation of the locals towards the foreigners.
i) It is expected to pay for the locals whenever eating out
ii) It is expected to dine in the expensive places
iii) It is expected to travel in style all the the time
iv) It is expected to use or buy the latest Branded items
If one is to follow these expectations, then there isn't much money left to bring home. So, I choose to be careful with my expenses. Sometimes, it is also the perception of the locals over the foreigners. If they see you dining with them, they also become more at ease, or I hope so.
The menu is different on a daily basis - we have rice with dishes from Monday to Thursday and rice noodles on Friday. It fills the stomach which is more than what I can ask for.

The food is pretty good, if eat outside, it would cost me about VND65,000 = MYR10 for this meal
