I get asked all the time, why I would move to all the way to Tennessee from New York? The answer is simple. Long Island, NY is THE most expensive place to live in the United States. Yes, more expensive than New York City, Orange County, and San Francisco.
For someone getting out of college and looking to get settled down and start a family and career its just about impossible.
Now yes, you do earn more money in NY but when you factor in taxes, gas prices, home prices, oil, electric and everything else its not even close.
NY will always be my home but i'm so thankful for the opportunity and the life Knoxville TN allows me to live. I'm currently building a house at 26, this is something exactly 0 of my peers have been able to accomplish. I have a great job and I still have plenty of time to spend with my family.
If you're struggling to advance your life where your living now, don't be afraid to travel, and find a new area you can call home. Sometimes all we need is a challenge to better ourselves.
Funny you mention this, I was just looking at real estate prices in Tennessee on zillow. You're right, very affordable $/per sq. ft. there. Tempting...

It's been booming down here as long as I've been here, about 4 years. I'd at least check it out, West Knoxville is a nice area, plus it has Turkey Creek http://turkeycreek.com/directory-map/
