Over the past few decades, obesity has become one of the main mortality and morbidity factors worldwide. With the new technologies and the processing and the genetic engineering of food, you’d think it was about time science had figured out a way to beat obesity, little did we know it was science that’s causing it all along.  Our bodies are biological organisms, the fruits of millions of years of evolution, the fruits of nature, it is only logical that they would better accommodate natural nutrients. With the over processing of food that has taken over the globe, from canned foods, to processed bleached flours and sugars, more than 50% of what we eat is artificial and that is what screwing up our systems.

Let’s help each other fight SUGAR!!

Constipation, haemorrhoids, chronic stomach pains, hair loss, skin rashes and plenty more alterations besides obesity are caused by what we eat, and the biggest culprit in the mist of this all is white sugar. Contrary to popular believes, although fat does make you fat, sugar is the real enemy. Think about it this way, fats like butter, cheese, fish, dark chocolate, oils, etc.… do have a high fat calorie intake but it’s all natural, there is no processing, no artificial additives making it very easy for our bodies to digest and eventually burn off, because it’s all organic and it’s all natural. However the processed foods and mainly those made out with white processed refined sugar, bleached white flour and more of the processed ingredients are complete strangers out our bodies, they are made with artificial additives and are processed in a way that helps the industries with no regard to the human body and how it would respond to it.

 You are what you eat!!

As old as the saying goes, you really are what you eat and this is as good a time as any for you, all of you, to start eating healthy. It really doesn’t matter whether you’re slim, stocky, curvy, fat or skinny, a healthy diet is necessary for everyone who wishes to live a healthy and long life.

 So, let’s all start together!!

One of the many reasons, I decided to start my blog with this article was that I wanted my experience on this website to be all about new beginnings. For a new era, a healthy era!! So, over the next few months I will be sharing some low sugar, low fat recipes that can be made with all natural, all organic ingredients. Let’s take this as a second chance to make nice with our bodies, to make amends and to truly make the next step into leading a healthier life.

So first things first, Make a BUDGET!!
Dieting will be hard, it will be daunting but the rewards would be immense, think about it as a new life style, like someone changing cities or moving to the country side, you’ll miss the theater and the opera house, but you’ll have greenery and fresh air. But apart from all of this, dieting can be expensive. You’ll have to say goodbye to your canned peas and the easy mashed potatoes and say hello to organic fruits and vegetables, fresh fish, organic eggs, organic lean meats and plenty more of farm produce. Now, I understand that this might be a bit of an undertaking, but look at it this way, a pint of beer in New York City is around 5 USD, now for those of you outside the USA, like myself, have different prices, but beer, as all alcohol, would still be expensive, that’s why I say, QUIT DRINKING!! Well, not in the literal meaning, but you don’t need a beer after work every day, I understand blowing of steam but, you can go for a run after work, and have one evening a month to have some friends over and drink, the rest of the month, you abstain from alcohol. Also, most people have lunch at work, or like I do, at school, wasting easily an extra 100 USD a month, again for the USA prices. While with our new plan, you’ll be packing your lunch every day.  So, what do you say? Let’s kick off those extra pounds, and live longer and healthier, you’ll never feel better and remember: NOTHING TASTES BETTER THAN HOW SKINNY FEELS!!!!

OKAY, I agree. So… what do I do now!!
Valid question! First of all, go through your pantry; throw away anything that’s processed (cereals, canned food, TV dinners, packed snacks, energy bars… anything with a high percentage sugar in it. And now let’s focus on what you should eat.
Fresh fruit is your best friend, if you have a sweet tooth like me, you’ll probably feel robbed by this diet plan and think you’ll quickly miss your sugar, it is kind of true, because sugar does cause some sort of an addiction, but I’ll cover that in another article. However, most of your cravings can be fixed with fresh fruit. Apples, pears, melon, prunes, plumb, apricots, grapes… all fruits have sugar however the sugars contained in fruits is ALL NATURAL!! Remember how we spoke about white refined sugar and how bad it is for your body, refined sugar is actually made out of natural sugar but with the additives and the processing it is submitted to in order to create the texture and amount of sugar needed, it becomes very unhealthy. So, if sugar is what you crave then opt for fruit. Honey is also an adequate sugar substitute, add it to a natural yogurt with some raw oats and fruit on the top, you got yourself an amazing breakfast.
Vegetables are also key ingredients in any dieting process, cucumbers, carrots and lettuce are amazing snacks, you can eat them raw any time of the day, very satiating and have virtually no calories.
Come on, get up, and let’s start a healthy era, let’s learn to better treat our bodies so we would feel much better in them.
Stay tuned for more recipes and diet and work out advice. I am counting on your help and support through this processed as I, myself, am looking at 90 lbs to lose.
