Hotels Near the Hip Strip in Montego Bay Jamaica - ( Montego Bay Resort Club and El Greco)

in lifetsyle •  5 years ago  (edited)

On ReggaeSteem, one of the key use cases for the JAHM Token is Stake & Stay, which allows anyone that stakes 100k JAHM Tokens to receive a JSNS Token ( JAHM Stake and Stay Token) which is redeemable for 3-5 nights at 4-5 star hotel in Negril Jamaica. Here you can find more information about Stake and Stay including a list of hotels you can choose from at this moment.

Now while Stake and Stay cannot be used in Montego Bay at the moment, you will more than likely pass through the Montego Bay Airport called the Sangster International Airport (MBJ) to get to Negril. From MBJ ( the code for sangster Interanational Airport) it is around a 90 minute drive. There are also small domestic airlines that can fly you from Montego Bay to Negril.

But what if you want to Chill in Montego Bay for a day our two before heading off to Negril? Well this is what this post is about.

One of my favorite scenes in Jamaica is this one above. What you are looking at here is the Hip Strip in Montego Bay. Here you will find the beautiful Doctor Caves Beach, Margaritaville, bars, restaurants, clubs, hotels and more. The hotel I took this shot from is The Montego Bay Club Resort. The rooms here are owned by various individuals ( What an investment). Now while this a is a 3 star hotel ( on some review sites) what attracts many people here is the view and proximity to the Hip Strip as well as to the Airport which is 5 minutes away. You can literally see the planes landing from this view.

As you can see below, this place looks really rundown as it has been around for years. But for me the convenience and view make up for it. The rooms aren't bad either, besides if you are in a hotel room for most of your trip, you are doing it wrong.

Here is a view from the beach of the Monetogo Bay Club resort.
As mentioned before, different rooms are owned by different people/companies, so one person may go and get a well furnished luxury hotel room, while others may get meh. But I have had nothing but good experiences here. Another cool thing about this hotel is that it has a modern looking set of suites right in the same complex called EL Greco

So to get to Montego Bay Club Resort or El Greco, you have to pass through these gates.

Here is what El Greco looks like from above. While the rooms are modern and more luxurious here, you wont have that sea view. If you are travelling with a fussy one, El Greco may be the better choice. If you are travelling with a person who loves the ocean view, you know what to do. Here is the Google Maps Location for El Greco in Montego Bay

What I love about this strip the most is Doctor's Cave Beach located right across the street from the Monetgo Bay Club resort and El Greco. Yup, literally just go down the elevator and cross the street. This is the view from a room I stayed in at Montego Bay Club Resort. Imagine meditating here? The Doctor Caves Beach has an entry fee, but it is free if you are staying at the two mentioned hotels. The beach is well taken care of. It isn't 7 mile beach in Negril but it is it's own little paradise.

Another place I recommend you stop by is Margaritavilleif you wanna drink, get some good eats, swim or go clubbing at night. Yeah it is pretty much a tourist trap but it has a good vibe and is right by the sea.

There are a couple sports bars, restaurant and lounges around. Though the place has probably changed since the last time I was there. The Daiquiris with the Jamaican Appleton rum are popular in these spots. Great way to cool down in the Jamaican heat, well next to a cool Redstripe Beer.

If you feel like venturing past the Hip Strip to see some spots, here is a list of places near by you can get to easily by asking front desk to hook it up. Things to do in Montego Bay I highly recommend going to Duns River falls.

The Sunset from the rooms facing the Ocean at Monetgo Bay Resort club or at the Doctor Cave Beach are amazing. I truly wish I was there now. So on your way to Negril to Chill via your JAHM Toknes and Stake and Stay, take a day or two in Montego Bay. Lol that sounds like a real TV commercial. Motengo Bay has a special place in my heart though. Why? I have been going there since childhood, as my grandparents lived in St. James.

You know Mobay is Nice when Reggae artiste CoCoa Tea makes a song about it.

Man i remember going to Doctor's Cave Beach as a kid, when we came down from the States. The water was so clear and beautiful you could see your feet when looking down. A huge contrast compared to the beaches in New York. The thing that i always loved was how close the planes came to the beach while attempting to land at the airport. I haven't been to Jamaica in years, i need to get my papers together i miss home.
