Michigan has some of the most beautiful lighthouses in the world. Once used to keep ships from running aground, they now stand as a reminder of times past. The shorelines of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan once had hundreds of lighthouses. The waters of the lakes can become as nasty as the ocean during a November storm and have caused many shipwrecks... the most famous of which is the Edmund Fitzgerald, which one of my cousins perished on.
GPS used on ships today, along with LED lit channel markers have replaced the need for lighthouses today, but, they will never replace the beauty of the old tall structures. If you ever get a chance, take a walk on Michigan's shoreline, like places near Ludington, Tawas, Grand Haven, Whitefish Point and Mackinac Island. You won't be disappointed and will make for a beautiful picture.
