Punta Verde Zoo Park: a lot of news for 2017 ROARRR

This week we interviewed Maria Rodeano, the director of Zoo Park Punta Verde in Lignano Sabbiadoro. Together with her we celebrate a very special event, the pink bow for the birth of the giraffe Berta!

Many novelties for this summer 2017 including the highly anticipated arrival of the Panda Rosso dell' Himalayas: Kajal and Kiran are the two females who have found loving hospitality at the Lignano facility. The red panda, or lesser panda, also called "fire fox", is a distant cousin of the most famous giant panda.

The zoo is a perfect place for those who want to spend a whole day with family or friends, in fact in addition to the path dedicated to animals, the structure is equipped with a spacious outdoor playground where adults and children can have fun together. For lunch break or a tasty snack, you can choose one of the many shady dining areas for picnics or the central restaurant that offers several tasty dishes or fast and tasty sandwiches!

When was the Zoo Park Punta Verde born?

The Zoo Park Punta Verde was founded in 1979 north of the tourist area of Lignano Riviera, on the left bank of the river Tagliamento, in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The zoo is home to about a thousand animals of a hundred different species, many of which are threatened with extinction such as giraffes, Siberian tigers, ring tail lemurs and snow leopards.

The Zoo Punta Verde Park's mission is based on several points:

the education of its own public towards a greater culture and sensitivity towards the animal world and the environment, through targeted environmental education programmes aimed at the general public and schools of all levels;
the conservation of biodiversity, through the economic support of various projects to protect species threatened with extinction directly in their places of origin, also offering local populations an opportunity for sustainable development;
research, through collaboration with Institutes such as Universities, Museums and Scientific Institutes in general;
and the offer of emotions to young and old through a day of leisure in a pleasant environment that encourages contact with nature, helping to respect it.

What news for the reopening of this season?

During the winter winding up of the Punta Verde Zoo Park, several maintenance works were carried out and new departments were created; for this reason, at the opening there will be various novelties, such as the new snow leopard area, the creation of a new point of view on the European aviary and finally the red pandas.

From your website you can see the many services for both schools and families that you offer, tell us?

Various activities are proposed to the public visiting the Punta Verde Zoo Park. In the months of April and May, on Sundays and public holidays you can participate in the ZOOMOBILI. These itinerant workshops take place at different locations in the Park, at predetermined times and aim to investigate topics such as biodiversity, evolution, research, conservation, sustainability, invasive alien species. They are an opportunity to meet the Park's educators who will be available to answer the curiosities of visitors.

Since 2017, the educational offer for families has increased thanks to the INCONTRIES WITH THE KEEPER/GUARDIANO, proposed on the weekends of April and May and from June every day.

Visitors will have the opportunity to observe animals in activity while interacting with one or more environmental enrichments, stimuli of different types that help them to manifest the typical behaviours of the species, such as food research or department exploration. The zoo keepers will tell some curiosities about the animals they take care of every day and will be available to answer questions from the public. 19 June they will resume close meetings with lemurs and from 20 the ones with giraffes.

We thank the director for dedicating this exclusive interview to us and for the commitment that, all his staff puts every day, in the care of the zoo and its friendly guests!

I would say that you just have to discover all the theme parks of Bibione and Lignano to have fun with the whole family... and remember that with our Europacard you can have the entrance at discounted price!
