It's a fact that LinkedIn has become the first choice for recruiters when looking for candidates outside of their network. With LinkedIn being such a strong social media advocate for those looking for a job, its imperative you have a great photo, an up-to-date profile and utilize key words that recruiters search in your profile.
Elements of a great photo -
- Photo should be a headshot from the shoulders up is best. Make sure it's clean in focus, no blurry shots or selfies.
- Dress like you are going on an interview or going to work - stay away from revealing shots or too much flesh.
- Look at the camera - pretend you are making eye contact with a friend - a recruiter should be able to see your eyes - be reassured by your picture that you are a real person.
- Open inviting expression - relax and smile when taking your photo. Pretend you are talking to a friend or think of the place you are most comfortable. It will reflect in your face and give you the most natural look and feel. Its the expression that makes people will want to talk to you
- Good lighting - and flattering background - save dark and mysterious for other venues.
- A smile is great - it should be natural not forced. Teeth or no teeth is up to you, always do what makes you look best.
- Make sure your photo is current and looks like you.
Finally no selfies. This photo is you at your most professional and your best.
Send before and after profile photos, I'd love to see them.
