I decided i had enough with Windows and want to try Linux. Can this be done?
I read step-by-step guides and I could not find one which would guide me how to install Linux without having Windows.

I am diving into unknown to be honest, don't know what to expect. I have no previous programming experience so this is a big challange for me. This could also go wrong and end up with windows. Any advice and critisism is welcome.

Are you trying to download and install Linux on the computer that has no operating system from that computer itself? Can't be done. Not sure if that's what you meant.
Otherwise, from another computer, download the linux distro you're after (www.distrowatch.org) and install to a usb. Boot the computer you want to install linux on from the usb and you'll be good to go.

I should have been more clear, i wasn't trying to do it on the computer with no operating system.I downloaded and burned Kubuntu on cd then tried to install but all I got was welcome screen Kubuntu. Nothing happened and on command line there were all errors. Hope this makes sense

Ok. There was possibly file corruption in the burning process. If you can get hold of a usb that'd probably be better. This program makes making bootable linux usb's really easy - http://www.linuxliveusb.com/

I got it all sorted thanks to you. I really like the looks of Linux, very clean but i haven't tried many things. First thing i noticed i could't find CD-ROM and it wouldn't open .exe on cd for drivers. My thinking is it's not compatible with Linux.

Try a virtual machine first maybe see if you like it. Then burn it on a disc or usb and load it up! It's fun if you like customization!

It's not any different from doing in on a computer with Windows. Once you get the media created you can just put it in the clean machine and boot off of it. As long as the media was created correctly/successfully you will boot to an option to Try Kubuntu or Install Kubuntu, then you just go through the installer prompts. Be forewarned, there may be programs you're used to using that are either not compatible with Linux, don't work quite the same way under Linux, or are not as stable under Linux. Feel free to ask further questions about it. It seems like there are plenty of people who are willing to help.
