Elementary OS Juno, The Good Looking LinuxsteemCreated with Sketch.

I was using Elementary OS Loki before, but I had to replace it with Ubuntu 16 LTS because, at that time, my work needs a wider range of apps. That goes without saying. Elementary OS is a branch of Ubuntu, with a limited app support. But I remember clearly the user experience was nice. It was lightweight and the desktop design was pleasing to see.

So, Elementary OS Juno...

I have a newer laptop (core i5, Intel chips inside, Nvidia, 8GB Ram), with windows 10 installed. I mainly use it for my works: Adobe Photoshop, Atom Editor, Xampp, Microsoft Office, and Internet Browsing.

I don't know what happens, my laptop is so laggy. Took me some minutes to open Photoshop, the windows explorer unresponsive sometimes, and browsing the internet becomes so slow. When issues like that keep bugging me for days, I have an idea to install an additional OS.

I was planning to install Ubuntu, but thanks to @crypticwyrm post, I'm intrigued to try the new Elementary OS: Juno.

The installation process went so smooth. I download the iso from the elementary os official website. I transfer the iso to USB stick with Unetbootin. Restart, change the boot option. I use old school method: make a root partition, home, and swap. And voila, elementary os Juno is installed.

The Design

My Desktop. Sorry for the wallpaper, I'm just another LFC fan. #YNWA

One thing that makes Elementary OS stands out is its design. So modern yet simple to use. I think its intuitive. So that non-Linux user could easily adapt to this OS. The docking system reminds me of Mac OS. And it's so lightweight.

The Epiphany browser is a bit laggy for me. So I change it with chromium. Problem solved.

One thing keeps bugging me, for now, is the color calibration. The Facebook header, for example, it's not so blue, but more to purple-ly. Same with some pink colors, it displayed as purple-ly. I try to change the color option on system setting because elementary os Loki had it, but turns out, that color option is gone in Juno.

With this kind of messy color calibration, I decided to not install GIMP. Or in other words, I will mainly use elementary OS only for browsing, discord, and other messenger things. So, no need to install Lampp either, or Atom in this matter.

We also will find the AppCenter on the dock. The AppCenter is cool. Elementary OS is developing this "pay as you want" app store. You can even put $0 at the price box and then you download the app that you need.

I want Spotify on My Juno

I try to watch Netflix, Youtube on Juno. So far so good. Sometimes the video is laggy, perhaps the OS still has bugs for Intel chips. I can bear with that. What about some music? Well, I'm a loyal subscriber of Spotify. I try to locate Spotify on AppCenter, no luck. Same goes with Gnome Software center, no Spotify there.

As far as I know, Elementary OS is different than Ubuntu, so installing .deb files from Spotify official web won't work. But we always can Install Flatpak and add Nuvola Apps repository in Juno. It will allow Spotify to be installed via Gnome Software.

Nice!

So far, I'm satisfied with Juno performance. Although sometimes soon, I might replace it with Ubuntu 18, it just my habit to try some distros over and over again :P

Elementary OS is by far the easiest to use Linux distro. But if they're going to penetrate the wider market, they really need to keep the AppCenter updated. I mean, not every user will bother to add repo this repo that just to install a simple app like Spotify...
