Hello Steemians.
I do not belong to the SteemFest organization, I'm just excited that SteemFest # 2 is being held in my country and I am posting this, to help all those who want to come to Portugal to attend this event.
As Portuguese, and police by profession, I feel able to answer all kinds of doubts you have about your travel here.
Why are you going to love coming to Portugal?
- 1 - Portugal is the oldest country in Europe, making of Portugal and consequently Lisbon a place to visit for those who enjoy history and ancient art.
- 2 - The coffee is damn good, Portuguese espresso is the best in the world. And very cheap, values range from 50 cent to 2 € (in the richest areas), with the normal value of being 70 cent.
- 3 - Excellent gastronomy, it is difficult to eat badly in Portugal. A normal meal in Lisbon ranges from € 5 to € 10 per person, expensive food is an alternative and not a rule. I advise you to try typical Portuguese dishes, you will not regret it.
- 4 - Portugal is a Liberal Country, Same sex marriages have been legal for years. Transgenders can easily change their gender. And while selling huge amounts of drugs is still illegal, drug use is admitted – and this has actually led to a decrease on the overall number of drug users in the country.
- 5 - People will welcome you like true friends. As a general rule, portuguese are very nice and easy-going people. They will try hard to make you feel at home and this is more evident the further North you go in the country. You’ll learn that all we really care about is sun, a drink and a good chat with friends.
- 6 - An international study revealed that Portugal is the fifth safest country in the world.
- 7 - I could go on without limit, but I do not want the publication to be boring. :)
CAUTIONS:
- 1 - Portugal is a safe country with almost no violent crimes. However non-violent petty crimes, such as pickpocketing and bag snatching, are on the rise. The petty thieves are very skilled, and often work in groups. Be vigilant in public areas, all tourist attractions, beaches, restaurants, hotel lobbies, bus stations, train stations and airports.
The hotline for any incident is the "112".
2 - Medical facilities are generally good in major centers, but may be limited in rural areas.
3 - The taxi is cheap, with a minimum price of € 4. However there have been rare incidents with tourists in which the taxi driver charges € 50 for a ride that should cost € 10.
Possible differences.
1 - Drivers in portugal are a bit crazy. For those who come from more straightforward countries may be a small shock. Do not worry.
2 - The Portuguese are not very punctual. It may happen that a dinner is arranged at 7:00 p.m. and the Portuguese arrive at 8:00 p.m. :)
3 - The Portuguese smoke a lot. You will see people smoking in all that is open places.
4 - Alcohol in portugal is very good and very cheap. A beer costs on average € 1, if they go out at night a gin or a vodka costs on average € 5.
