Feeling Dizzy Inside Lisbon's Pantheon

The Pantheon -a landmark of Lisbon worthwhile your time - which took so long to build that it inspired a local saying.

The location of the Pantheon is perfectly situated right outside Alfama and below Graca - right next to the cruise ship port of Lisbon. The moment you step inside your jaw will drop. The enterior reminded us a bit of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul with its domes inside and the high ceilings.

Stand right under the main dome, look up and start spinning and don't stop until you feel absolutely sick. Because then you can stomach the upper gallery right under that dome, everything is open except for a small walkway along the wall, if that doesn't make you feel at least a tiny bit afraid of heights, nothing will.

Now back to that saying - if you're living in Lisbon you might have heard this expression: “Obras de Santa Engracia”

Work began on the Santa Engrácia in 1682, but construction wasn’t finished until 1966, with the completion of the dome. Thanks to this nearly 300-year delay, the Portuguese still use the phrase “Obras de Santa Engracia” to refer to any seemingly never-ending process.

If you want to impress Lisboans say this if you're for example in a restaurant and it takes forever for your food to arrive. You'll shock them with that.

The Phantheon was actually planned to become a church, that's why it's also called Santa Engrácia but by the time it was finished there was no need for yet another church in Lisbon. Now the Pantheon serves the purpose of a final resting place for authors, politicians and entertainers.

We love the POV video. Some great filming and handling. Well done with this piece.

Oh no .. don't say that .. that's the camera set up they stole out of our car in Sintra. It hurts so badly!!!

Ah really! Sorry to hear that. We wanted to ask, what camera and what handle grip did you use to film it in our first comment, but thought we were going to be a bit nosy. But if you want to say, we don't mind :p sorry for the lost again.

It was the Lumix LX100 and the CraneM gimbal!!! :(

Wow! Didn't know what the CraneM Gimbal was, so looked it up. We would love one of those, but not for that price. It must hurt as that's definitely an investment, not only in terms of cost, but in value of creativity for future projects. We get shaky footage when we film on our GoPro 5 whilst we walk around. We feel for you, we really do. Now, we understand more about the circumstances of your stay in Lisbon. :(

I was just about to make the same statement about the video until I read that comment :<

I wish I could visit these amazing places around the world... nice post :)

The world is beautiful ... near and far!

Now, I've been to lisbon 2 times and didn't make it to the pantheon - so I'm happy I could see it through your "eyes" :)

Last time Lisbon was with my van which I just sold. still not sure if I'm happy about selling it; man, now you got me thinking...

How could you sell your baby ??? Ha ha .. But you'll get a new one when you're ready again to explore Europe!

The building reminds me about Assassin's Creed, lol :D but the pictures are great :)

You're a gamer.?

Yeees! :D

Not sure if you know of @criticker ... it used to be a movie recommendation site BUT we know also offer gaming recommendations. It's our site we're been working on for over 12 years now.

Very cool! :D

oww great!! :)

It's very beautiful there! I was there last autumn.

Agreed .... it's stunning. Autumn would have been beautiful .. what was some of the other things you loved about Lisbon?

I'm delighted with the small streets, the tram that goes up the hill. And tiles Azulejo almost every house. A very colorful city!

I alway long for having my retirement in either Portugal. How I not to fall in love with such a country with nice views and people. :0)

For sure ... Portugal has so many different spots we yet have to explore..... What are would you choose to retire in?

Portugal or Spain would be a lovely place for my retirement:-)

That structure is beautiful from outside and inside. Loved the video! You've really managed to show us the details. Good job! :)

Thank you!!!! I didn't have to do much, except to hold the cameras ;)

Thank you for the photos and the video! Really enjoyed them:)

Oh! I didn't notice this when our cruise ship docked Lisbon, I'm going to check my photos now to see if I captured it be any chance.
