The Little Lady of the Big House - Jack LondonsteemCreated with Sketch.

Today I finished reading “The little lady of the big house” by Jack London.

While reading I couldn't feel what was the idea of the book. Almost till the middle of it there were just descriptions of characters and atmosphere of the scene. There was nothing to get me involved.

But I love Jack London and the language was as I expected. I just enjoyed the way he describes but not the contents.

And then the problem came. A love triangle in the age of forty. I stress this age since it seems to me that too much tragedy was involved but people are usually level-headed with the life wisdom obtained.

Still I like the main character and I do not like his wife. And especially I didn't notice anything so special about the third party. But I understand that what I like about Dick Forrest is his energy, his memory, his organizing skills. I do like him as a person and it's a great sorrow for me that his life was ruined by unworthy woman. As to me though author maybe tried to show her the best woman ever.

What next

We do not know what happens after the end of the story but we do not expect that it could later be better. And Dick Forrest would live the way his rival lived before he came to the Big house. At least he had 12 years which is quite more than three years of the other.

What do we know? Dick Forrest will live out the tragedy because of his personality and responsibility and his love for his household. And then anything can happen as in any life...
