Shahnameh: the Great Persian Epic

in literature •  7 years ago

Shahnameh is a great Persian book written about 1,000 years ago by Ferdowsi, one of the first great poets of modern Persian.

Shahnameh is a chronicle of triumph, bravery, and heroism. It is a history of strains between ethnic groups for the sake of attaining their dreams, goals, and ambitions.

The wars of Persians in Shahnameh are never for the purpose of seizing territories of other nations or imposing the faith and religion or appropriating the spoils of war. Shahnameh is the epic of Persian people in defense of the nation’s eternal existence and strength against any devilish and alien being.

In the mythical part of Shahnameh, the motive for wars is usually the battle between humans and devils, and in the epic part, the motive is usually the conflict between good and evil.
