A fire broke out in a passenger bus in Habiganj area. The incident took place on a passenger bus of Shyamoli Paribahan in Mirpur Bazar on Saturday.
Bus driver and local sources said that on Saturday, a bus of Shyamoli Paribahan (Dhaka Metro-B-15-0637) left for Dhaka with half a passenger from Beanibazar in Sylhet at 11:30 am.
On the way, a mechanical error occurred on the bus in Rashidpur tea-garden area of Sreemangal-Shayestaganj regional highway in Bahishbal upazila. When driving a driver to repair Shayestaganj counter with a faulty vehicle, stop the driver when the locals screamed in the Mirpur Bazar when the smoke from the fire came out.
At this time local people rushed and tried to control the fire with sand-water and fire extinguisher.
On receiving the news, two units of Shayestaganj fire service brought the fire under control. At the time, the passengers of the bus were scared by the smoke of fire while many people were injured when they jumped through the windows of the car.
The identity of the injured was not immediately known. In this incident, the traffic on the Shayestaganj-Moulvibazar regional highway was closed for more than half an hour.
Shayestaganj fire service station officer Jamal Uddin Shaheen confirmed that the bus was rescued due to local firefighters dispersing powder with fire extinguishers. Otherwise, the fire of the bus could have been a major setback in the shops.
Meanwhile, Bahubal Model Police Station OC Golam Dastagir Ahmed and Upazila Vice-Chairman Md. They arranged for Mia to arrive at the spot and take the passengers to their destination.
